Trade or not?

Postby petachi » Tue Jan 24, 2012 12:52 pm

14 team mixed keeper league
7x7 w/ TB, OBP, L and QS as the added cats

We can keep up to 7 players for this year and mine right now are probably:

Texeira
Pedroia
Rollins
Youkilis
Stubbs
Hamels
Hudson or Fister (probably Hudson)

I've been offered:

Votto + Granderson for Tex + Peds + pick #31 in the upcoming draft (early 3rd round)

I estimate I gain around 10 hr and 10 sb and some OBP while probably not really losing anything except that I have an empty 2B slot which I hate to fill. My OF is weak as you can see so Granderson would be quite nice to add and value-wise I think it's a fair offer.

Anybody have any opinions on whether or not this trade makes my team weaker or stronger?

thanks

I would rather have Votto and Grandy, plus you get an extra pick.

I agree that it is a fair deal, but I feel that it should be 2 for 2 without the pick. Pedroia may not have as much flair but at 2B is a valuable guy to have. You shouldn't have to throw in something in my opinion, but if he won't let it go, then make it a later pick if you can.

I think I would stand pat. I break it down as

Votto > Tex Granderson<Pedroia

I am not sold on Granderson doing what he did again. If you think 25 HR and 20 SB with a bad BA then you won't be disappointed. And if that is the kind of player Granderson will be, then i would rather have the players you already have. Plus it will be pretty tough to find a 2B and should be easier to find an OF.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yeah I tried 2 for 2 and then suggested maybe a 5th or 6th round pick which he won't do.

I also am not counting on Grandy for any more than 90 runs, 25 hr, 90 rbi, 20 sb with an AVG around .255/.260 so I'm not expecting a repeat by any means.

I don't think I'm going to do the deal with the pick as it is right now. I would love to get Votto but Tex still has some gas in the tank.

The really big hurdle I think is the other owner feels Votto is far above Tex and is talking like Granderson is more like last year than any year before.

I feel Votto is great but not all that above Tex just yet and Granderson could easily go back to his earlier years ways which is less valuable to me than Pedroia at 2B.

not
Granderson is a popular guess to decline some. I don't like this deal having to add a pick for sure.

I would keep the guys you have. For 2012 at least, Dustin + Tex > Votto + Granderson in a 16 team league. Tex is still a solid, top tier 1B option (albeit the last guy) and Dustin is elite as far as 2B goes. Votto is the best player IMO, but if Granderson declines, this is a losing trade. Especially with a pick involved.

I would hang onto Pedroia, even though the upgrade from Tex to Votto is pretty tempting.
