Need to Keep 2 of the 4 WHIR

Postby manmagoonbt » Sun Jan 22, 2012 9:21 pm

I am in a 16 team 5 x 5 auction ($260 cap) roto league

starting line up C C 1B 2B 3B SS CI MI OF OF OF OF OF UTIL P P P P P P P RP RP

You have to have 2 rp active at all times

I keep 3 but I am keeping Asbrubal Cabrera for sure at $8

The options are

Alex Avila $4
Drew Storen $6
Desmond Jennings $1
Ductin Ackley $1

I am thinking 1 of 2 things

1.) Take my chances with the young studs Ackley and Jennings. They could both have pretty big years and both play positions that get thin in such a big league. Ackley especially. However the weak line up and playing half of his games at Safeco, make me a little cautious on him. Jennings will be a stud for sb for sure. So this could be one way to go and at a combine $2 it is good value

2.) Keep Avila who plays at the thinnest position, especially in a league that requires 2 starting catchers on all 16 teams and Drew Storen. Being required to start 2 RP, closers get expensive during the auction. Last year lower level guys like Kevin Gregg and Leo Nunuez went for over $6 each. Guys like Bell and Rivera went for over $20.

Who do you think would be the best 2 of the 4 to keep?

Thanks for any opinions.

With 32 catchers started I'd go avila and Jennings and I don't think its all that close.

It is tough to give up on both Avila and Storen at those prices and the way your league is setup but I think I would go with the Jennings and Ackley. Both have very nice upside and at $1 they are amazing bargains. I am not sure I see Avila repeating those numbers again though he should easily earn $4 and closers are just way to volatile for me to keep them over young talented hitters.

Agree with GF. RP's won't be as hard to come by as C's. Jennings is to good to pass up at that price in a deep league.

Yeppp. Avila and Jennings, and while it's difficult go give up Storen at that price, there's no way I could justify him over the other two.

Yup! 12 team 2 catcher leagues. If you can get an upper tier-ish catcher at a decent price you do it. I think Avila's avg will drop this season, but he should be very solid otherwise.

Avila and Jennings.

If it wasn't a 2 catcher league, I'd pass on Avila and go with Ackley.

Definitely go Avila and Jennings. You can hope to hit a cheap closer replacement on the waiver wire during the year, but a starting catcher will be harder to come by.

Help with mine?
