Who would you keep? WHIR

Postby bigguy1551 » Thu Jan 19, 2012 4:42 pm

Looks like this is my last cut. . It is a 10 team league with a twist in scoring, 6x5 with a standard 5x5 roto plus OBP. We have 2 active at each position(6OF), 16 total hitters, and 10 total pitchers, 2 SP, 2 RP, 2 SP, with 1/2 in reserve 39 total. Its a keeper league and this year we keep 13 and one less per year for the next 3 years, then we have a complete redraft. I won last year so i pick last in thedraft
Current Roster is:
Mauer C
Berkman 1B/OF
Zobrist 2B/OF
Wright 3B
Tulowitzki SS
Kemp OF
Victorino OF
Verlander SP
Hamels SP
Sabathia SP
Strasburg SP
Moore SP/RP qualifies as SP if he gets a spot in the rotation, can't see why not.
My last 3 are:
Kipnis 2B Like the potetial, all he did was hit when he came up plus a little speed.
Bonifacio 2B/3B/OF Multiple postions a plus, great speed, playing time?
Howard 1B Looks the first of May or so but setback a real possibility, what if he misses 3 months?
I also have no first round draft pick, i lost it getting Hamels. Been trying to swing another 2 for 1 to upgrade but doesn't look like i'll be able to. I know Howard is probably the best bet but the injury concerns me. He bats lefty and it's his left achilles he tore.
Who would you keep and why. Thanks as always.

I think I'd cut Bonifacio before Howard based on potential alone. If Howard has a setback and misses 3 months, yes, it stings, but hindsight is 20/20. You have to make your decisions based on the information available now and the potential the two have. From where I'm standing it'll be a lot easier for you to re-acquire Bonifacio in a draft than it will Howard; and it's not like Berkman has been the model of consistency or health in his career, either.

I'm not sure you can't take that risk with Howard given where you are thinking of him in your priority list. you have a cushion with Berkman..worth the risk.

Worth the risk with Howard. I'd be more worried with Mauer personally.

Another vote for Howard here. You can acquire Bonifacio easier in the draft. His multiple position eligibility helps his case, but you already have someone better than him at every position he plays.

I am keeping Kipnis. The guy has a ton of potential plus plays a shallow position at 2B which you could use. Howard has way too many question marks and someone I would have been selling even if he hadn't gotten hurt. His numbers have been heading south for years and just isn't that strong of a 1B anymore. Add in the fact that he will miss half the season and possibly more plus who knows how he heals from this and I would rather take the chance on an young up and comer than a guy who is past his prime and hurt.

I'm actually on board with this. Howard was declining before the injury, and while I don't think he'll be useless at all, Kipnis is young and talented and plays 2B which are three good things for a potential keeper.
