No. You'd be selling Mauer at an all-time low, and buying Avila at an all-time high. I think they'll probably produce at a level close to each other in value...top 10 catchers, maybe 8th, 9th? But Mauer has the track record to do much better and Avila doesn't.
I'm not a fan of Mauer, but you have to be able to get more for him just off of his name value. You should get more before you try and pull the trigger.
Mauer's upside when he's healthy is too great to make this trade. Part of me wanted to take Avila and not look at Mauer's name value but he's still super talented if he can stay on the field.

Not without a gun pointed to my head.
The problem is you look at Mauer's last two seasons and that Minnesota has almost nobody else offensively aside from Morneau and you actually start considering this, with the season Avila put together in 2010. Like I said previously, though, you look at that 2009 season by Mauer and you know if he can just stay healthy he can produce a ridiculous average and strong all around fantasy numbers, so you hang onto him, play him when he's healthy, plug in the best available catcher when he isn't, and hopefully come out ahead.
Stick with Mauer. Cs are a fool's bet and at this point you may as well just hope he gets off to a good start so you can deal him for something decent. I broke this rule last year in one league and kept Posey for $1 and it came back to bite me. They do not play enough and get hurt too much. If you have a good one it is almost always better to deal them while their value is high. The days of Mike Piaza smashing 40 Hrs out of the C slot are long gone.

This. Or at least see Avila do it for one more year. I am not a big fan of catchers anyway but Mauer has the most upside and if he plays a lot more 1B he could start hitting better. Think of last year as a lost year and go into this year with the expectation he could match 2010's numbers.

If your team isn't already staffed with several injury-questionable type players, then I would keep Mauer. If you have a few other guys with injury concerns, I would trade for Avila to minimize some risk.
