League Type - Roto 5/5 - R/HR/RBI/S/AVG W/S/K/ERA/WHIP 12 Team Auction Positions - C/1B/2B/3B/CI/MI/3OF/UTIL --- 9 Pitchers Keep 8 - pay draft day price or waiver price
Brian McCann - 15 Eric Hosmer - 10 Aramis Ramirez - 9 Starlin Castro - 11 Michael Morse - 2 Desmond Jennings - 1 Alex Gordon - 4 Mike Trout - 1 Brett Lawrie - 0
Jered Weaver - 13 Andrew Bailey - 4 Josh Beckett - 1 Joel Hanrahan - 1 Jair Jurrjens - 1
I am looking to potentially package some of these players to a team that has less of a luxury in selecting its keepers Most people (me included) over payed for the star players during draft day, so many of them will be available in the upcoming draft. The rest of my roster is as follows:
Robinson Cano - 45 Jesus Guzman - 0 Josh Hamilton - 38 Jeff Francoeur - 6 Nelson Cruz - 30 Wandy Rodriguez - 8 Ryan Madson - 6 Jon Lester - 28 Ivan Nova - 0 Jason Motte - 0 Bartolo Colon - 2 Scott Baker - 2
This are the players that I've pretty much ruled out. As long as I have a good foundation I should be able to bid high on some of the superstars that will be available on draft day.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading.
i am assuming it's a 260 budget, so if thats the case the guys i would keep are so cheap i wouldn'd even think about letting cano go....this would also leave alot of $$$$ going into your draft......good luck
Eric Hosmer - 10 Aramis Ramirez - 9 Starlin Castro - 11 Michael Morse - 2 Desmond Jennings - 1 Alex Gordon - 4 Brett Lawrie - 0
Jered Weaver - 13
Tough throwing back Cano, but I think these guys have tremendous value for what they cost you. I like all of them a lot. Some may question Aramis Ramirez, but 9 is a good price and with the extra CI, I would certainly keep him. And with all the money you saved, you can draft whomever you want, including Cano.

I think this is the way i would go. I really like Trout at $1 but I am not sure he will start the season in the majors so not sure I would want to keep him. Unless you know the league will over pay for him in the draft because he is a prospect at which point he might be worth keeping though that also depends on how much you have to pay to keep him for next year.
I have problems keeping Gordon even at $4 just because I am not sure I believe he has figured things out and will give you this kind of season next year. I know he will go higher than this price at auction but I am just not sure the production will be there to warrant a keeper selection over these other guys. Nova was a hard cut at 0, he should earn more than that even if he doesn't match his numbers from last year.

I think those six are near locks. You're just getting insane value there assuming a $260 budget. That gives you two spots. I share MaudDib's concern about Gordon; I don't see him as a terribly attractive option even at that price. McCann at $15 seems very tempting but in a 12 team, 1 catcher league C is actually very deep. Beckett seems like a no. 3 starter at this point, and with so much good, young pitching around these days I'd have no problems throwing him back. Trout would be a good keep, except that the Angels' offseason complicates his playing time. Not sure what's gonna happen there.
I do maintain that Trout is the best prospect in the game, even above Harper. His ceiling is as high as anyone's. His floor is an above-average regular. He made the majors at age 19 and held his own (good walk rate, .171 ISO). If you look at the list of players who made the majors at 19, you'll see a list of fantasy superstars. The thing is, that might be a few seasons away. It's a matter of - can you afford to waste the roster spot for now?
Oh yeah, Aramis Ramirez for $9 would be a fine option as well. Keeping these insanely cheap guys will allow you to really throw your weight around at the auction, too.
Thanks for all the replies. Seems like I have a good deal of thinking to do on this topic. I finished in 4th place last year and set myself up quite well with very high value keepers. There may be a few trade possibilities opening up (targeting Ellsbury at 17 and Adam Jones at 4).
I understand worrying about Gordon, but what about Morse? I feel like he holds even more concerns.
Also, on the topic of Catchers, I am a nervous about throwing him back. Napoli and Avila are surefire keepers this year in our league and besides V-Mart and Mauer, there aren't that many elite catchers left.
I really do like Cano, but I feel like he could go for less than 45, and even if he doesn't, if I keep a 1 dollar stud instead, I could overbid on him and still win out.
