I'd re-think these rankings on Latos. I loved him in SD but Cincy is a bandbox and gets more homer-pronen the summer. Latos is a fly ball pitcher. Unless his strikeout rate goes way up, he may give up a lot of HRs. I did not understand this trade since Volquez has a decent GO/AO ratio but to get Alonso, the Padres were probably willing to take on a player with baggage in Volquez who might mature someday.

Latos had a higher HR/FB ratio in PETCO than when he was pitching away. Yes, he may see a small rise in his HR numbers, but his win totals should go up being on a competitive team. I wouldn't call Latos a fly ball pitcher either. He ended the season at about 40%, but when you compare his horrendous start (April/May FB% = ~49.5%) to the rest of the year (FB% = ~38%), he looks pretty good in that department.
1. Kennedy--Strong pitcher with decent K #'s playing in a weak hitting division.
2. Latos--This guy is going to rock this year. Most people don't know that he was healing/gaining conditioning for the first 1/1.5 months of starts last year. After that, he took off like a rocket. I'm not worried about that park switch, especially considering the better offense he is inheriting. Do it!
3. Shields--Good K #'s, but due for a regression, esp. if you look at his track record following good years. Also, I don't like pitchers in the A.L. East.
4. Pineda--Just a guess on this guy, but seems like a good up and comer. His offense won't help him out any.
5. Carpenter--Thought about putting him 4th, but his age is becoming a concern.
Ian Kennedy 1st Consistent, weak division, good K rate James Shields 3rd some regression, tough division Michael Pineda 4th Considered him 3rd but his offense stinks. Mat Latos 2nd I think he will be a really good one Chris Carpenter 5th Age a concern here numbers have increased last 3 years, still good k's though
