Help with my #1 overall pick

Postby kemper1971 » Sun Jan 01, 2012 3:17 pm

12 team, 5x5, $$ league, get to keep for 3 yrs.. these will most likely be my options, who to pick?

Justin Verlander - I could put him along side my keepers of Felix Hernandez, Kimbrel& Sergio Santos to get my pitching staff a huge kick start! But miss out on a huge bat

Carlos Gonzalez

Prince Fielder

Robinson Cano

My choice is Cano over Gonzalez. Monster numbers at a tough position in a good lineup. I wouldn't want to go with another pitcher so early if you already have Felix.

I'd take Fielder. In a 12 team league I will always want one of the top tier 1Bs.

In any case, as tempting as Verlander may be, I wouldn't recommend locking up a pitcher for three years if there are good offensive options available.

I'd rank them Cano, Prince and then CarGo. Robbie provides such a huge advantage at a week position.

I can't for the life of me imagine why you kept two relievers.

Kimbrel can be kept in the 20th rd and Santos in the 26th.. good value there I think

I would go with Cano over Fielder as well. Cargo is the third option. Verlander is last.

Yeah at those rounds the value is good but I can't imagine you didn't have stronger alternate options on your offense or even SP.

FWIW, answering your original question, Cano is where I'd go here. Fielder ranks closely behind him for me.

My other options are not that good Ryan Howard in the 1st (forget that), Mauer in the 3rd, Kendrick in 14th for bats (Im already keeping Starlin Castro & Absudral Cabrera in the late rounds.) I get to keep 5..I just feel Kimbrel really late is great value considering he was the best closer in MLB and Santos is a great pick later..Basically almost all my keepers will come rounds 18 and later..Not bad!

I would agree with others, Cano. He plays an elite position where he is the top of the list of.
