Trade Ryan Zimmerman?

Postby millerpark » Fri Dec 30, 2011 10:05 am

Hello All!
I just took over a fantasy standard 12team keeper baseball league. You can choose up to 6 keepers. For every keeper that you don't choose,
you will recieve an extra draft pick. Pitcher's, and batter's should be split between 3/3, or 4/2. Not 5/1. I have been offered U.Jiminez/A.McCutchen for R.Zimmerman.
What advice can you give me as I really are no good when it comes to trading baseball players! Also I can trade for draft pick also.
Leave a link and I will try to help you out as well.

The trade depends on the eligibility of Lawrie. Will he keep 2B for next year? If so, I would hang onto Zimmerman and Lawrie. If not, I would trade Zimmerman in a package with Marcum for McCutchen and Cain or Greinke. Jimenez is not a keeper either way, so I wouldn't want him. McCutchen is great, but 3B is such a thin position which only escalates Zimmerman's ranking. Good Luck!

I would accept this deal as soon as possible (aka before the other owner withdraws his offer).

McCutchen is more valuable than Zimmerman alone, plus you are getting Ubaldo. And since you have both Lawrie and Wright at 3B, losing Zimmerman is no big deal.

Once you have McCutchen, your definite keepers are-

1) David Wright
2) Andrew McCutchen
3) Brett Lawrie
4) Eric Hosmer
5) Rickey Romero (Needed for the 4/2 hitter vs. pitcher split)
6) SP (If needed for the 4/2 hitter vs. pitcher split, if you can keep 4/1, then I go with the guys listed and take the pick)

For the last keeper spot, Santana or Marcum would be my choice over Walden. Generally, it isn't a good idea to keep closers as the position is volatile and you can usually redraft them later than other players. Ubaldo might make a good 2nd pitcher keeper choice- his skills were roughly intact from 2010 (he was unlucky in Cleveland) and should bounce back some. Problem is that you may be able to acquire him in the draft later than normal.

It would be nice if you could get a SP upgrade too, but that would be greedy and maybe make the other manager retract his offer. As of now, take McCutchen for Zimmerman and be happy ;-D

You also need to keep Eric Hosmer over Hunter Pence, especially if acquiring another OF in McCutchen. Hosmer has too much potential to not keep, even for Pence.

This is a no brainer for you. I'd probably even do it for McCutchen straight up.

That said, I definitely wouldn't keep Walden. He's only a mid-tier RP that you'll be able to get during your draft. I'd definitely keep Hosmer though. Maybe I'm just higher on him than most, but I think he's a stud in the making.

I will keep Hosemer over Pence and also I sent an e-mail to oppostion and ask b4 I accept a trade I asked about acquiring McCuthen and a low draft pick.
Was I wrong in doing sooo?

Because then I would have 4 Offense/2 SP's.

question is, if you keep 5 does just 1 have to be a pitcher then? your missing piece right now is 1 pitcher better than Romero. I'd think Zimmerman or Castro could net you that if you find the right owner with 3 good SP's

I agree with the above poster about who you should keep AFTER you DO THE DEAL NOW! I agree McCuthchen is the best player in the deal. You are winning out on this one.
