didn't take long, now talks are "fizzling".
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that trade talks between the Rockies and Red Sox regarding Marco Scutaro "are now fizzling."
Well, that rumor died rather quickly. While Renck hears that the Rockies have indeed discussed a deal for Sctuaro, the Red Sox are understandably reluctant to agree to a trade because they aren't comfortable with their alternatives at shortstop. So it goes.

I was just going to say that this really doesn't make a lot of sense. Aviles isn't a defensive shortstop on an everyday basis. Punto sucks. Iglesias isn't ready... :-?

more news coming out today about Ichiro being moved out of the leadoff spot. all I heard before today was that he was being moved lower in the order.
there is an article on ESPN
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/75070 ... wedge-says
and part of the quote is this.
If Wedge makes the change, he said he was considering young prospect Dustin Ackley, Franklin Gutierrez and even Chone Figgins as possible replacements in the leadoff role. Ackley would seem the most likely after his debut last year. He played in 90 games, hit .273 with an on-base percentage of .348 and walked 40 times. Wedge considers Suzuki a possible option to bat second or third.

Ackley leadoff?
if Ichiro is moved to 2nd or 3rd I think that gives him even more value. I think the Mariners offense will be better this year with a full season of Ackley/Carp/Seager, healthy season of Gutierrez, and maybe an improvement from Smoak. Ichiro could not only be good in R, but also RBI.
