I was reading one of the recent Sports Illustrated, November 28 2011. on page 42 it talks about how Bud Selig has made changes to baseball. one of the things mentioned is the DH in the future. it says this..
The history of the American and National leagues is just that. For all intents and purposes the leagues no longer exist, and you can expect MLB, even post-Selig, to continue to blue the lines. We will see more "interleague" play, the DH used by all 30 teams and perhaps radical realignment that forever severs the ties to the original groups of eight.
all 30 teams will be using the DH and pitchers will no longer bat? what do you think about this?
at this point there are 7 votes to remove the DH all together, and I'm the only vote to have all teams use the DH. I think having the DH makes the game more simple. it would likely add more offense to the league, having another offensive player actually capable of hitting. sure there are pitchers who can hit, but I would imagine there are a lot more that can't. there are likely a lot of situations where the pitchers spot in the batting order is an easy out. if you're going to be having an interleague game every day, it takes out the potential injury for a pitcher who isn't used to batting. how much would it suck for an AL team to lose it's best pitcher because he had to bat. some managers might even demand their AL pitcher stands there and takes 3 called strikes, just so that he doesn't do anything that could change the way he was pitching in the game. I also imagine the players association would have something to say about removing the DH, and ultimately eliminating multiple players from baseball.
There is just so much more strategy in the NL game with the double switches, hit and runs, sacrifices, roster management, etc. It's the in depth part of the game that would pretty much be gone. Baseball doesn't need to be simple. That's what's so great about it.
Oh yes, sacrifice bunts and double switches. Such strategy. Just the peak of excitement. We wouldn't want to lose those.

The lesser league should have evolved years ago. Nobody should have to go through the anguish of having to watch pitchers hit as frequently as those fans do.
