Trade JJ Hardy for these 3 minor leaguers?

Postby BeSquare » Mon Dec 26, 2011 5:25 pm

20 team, 5X5 universal roto league, can keep 12 major leaguers and 5 minor leaguers. I have very little on my roster to choose from regarding minor league qualifiers, so have put Hardy on the block (I've also got EAybar for my SS position). Been offered Collin Cowgill, Henderson Alvarez, and Tommy Millone for JJ. Whadaya think?

Pretty bleh. Henderson Alvarez is the most interesting player there (Cowgill looks like a 4th OF to me, and even though Millone is the kind of interesting, soft-tossing lefty I love to root for, he's a long shot to be fantasy relevant).

Especially in a 20 team league where people are starting Cliff Pennington at SS, you should be able to get more for a guy who dropped 30 HR as a SS.

Agreed 100%. JJ should be worth more than that. I really don't see anything I like in that minor league group. I would be more happy to see you go after a bunch of low A players that are all potential at this point but have huge upside.

I would want a bit more for Hardy then that. Heck just shoot for one high upside player then shooting for 3 guys.

Agreed with the others. I like Alvarez, but think you could get more for Hardy after his season. Shop him around for more high upside quality instead of middle of the road quantity. ;-D

Agreed with everyone else here. You need to be able to get more for Hardy than that deal. Hardy isn't likely to hit 30 hrs this season, but in a 20 team league his isn't a throw-away player either.

I agree with all the posters above.

However, I would be looking to move Aybar over Hardy instead. I'm not sure whose value is higher at this point, but Aybar is one of those guys who always seems to get injured somehow. And playing SS won't help remedy that.

Would there be any difference of opinion if Brandon Belt were substituted for Milone in the deal? New deal would be JJ Hardy for Brandon Belt, Henderson Alvarez, and Collin Cowgill. Thx....

Adding Belt makes it better, but be aware if you're looking for minor league keepers he's almost sure to use up his eligibility in 2012. I'd counter with something like Belt + Alvarez + something other than Cowgill that would be actually useful. A high upside prospect in low/high A ball who has significant upside. What's his prospect roster?
