Even if the Rangers home park is a little more hitter friendly than the HomerDome (and I don't know that it is or isn't), it doesn't matter since no one on the Mariners or A's can hit a home run.

the Jays were hoping to win the rights and sign this potentially great pitcher. so what do the Jays do now? they still need pitching. can they now go out and make a trade for someone? maybe they get more involved for Gio Gonzalez? what?

I'd rather have Danks or Wandy than Gio. Gonzalez's price tag is far too high.

I'm thinking conspiracy! MLB and Nippon did not want Darvish pitching for a Canadian team. I'm thinking Texas did not actually bid $51.7 but was in fact a bit lower. I'm thinking the Jays actually had a slightly higher bid, but the bid was known by MLB and they put in the extra money raising the bid to beat the Jays. yeah you heard me, it's all a conspiracy! (not really).

He wouldn't have been any better off pitching in the HomerDome2.

I would think he had a better chance in Toronto than in Texas.

Good pitchers can pitch anywhere. The stadium might be tougher in Texas, but the competition should help even that out. Even moreso when the Astros start coming to town.

Hopefully they pony up for Prince Fielder. Stand pat with any major pitching moves and see what the deadline brings. Hats off to Texas for being so bold. Hope he makes C.J. Wilson into a faded memory. Angels- Rangers should be fun for years to come. If Seattle gets a few bats for 2013 the contraction word should start coming up for Oakland because they will be dead to rights for the next generation.

MLB is hardly a jingoist sport. They are always looking to internationalize the game and Toronto is one of the more cosmopolitan cities in the world. If it was Pittsburgh or Cleveland beating Texas I could see it, but not Toronto.

it's just gonna get taken out of how much they're willing to pay darvish. if they saw him as being worth a 6 yr 120MM deal or something like that they'll just offer 6/$70MM. obviously it'd increase the chances of signing him if they spent more money on him than the bid, but it's not like they lose anything if they can't sign him.

More of the same from Rogers...non-spending. Although I'm not sure spending 125M on an unproven pitcher is necessarily the way to go.

did they release the jays' bid amount? hard to call it non-spending unless we know they severely under bid. for all we know the jays could have been barely edged out, it's not like any old bid would have won it.
