Newbie Seeking Advice

Postby smokey3113 » Tue Nov 29, 2011 10:21 pm

Greetings everyone, I found this site thru Google and am new to fantasy baseball. I'd like some help and advice from anyone willing to offer.

Could I get opinions on the following deal.

Josh Johnson, Will Middlebrooks, and Alex White for Neftali Feliz, Arodys Vizcaino,Ivan Nova, and Matt Lipka.

I have Johnson on my roster. Am I getting enough in return? This a an auction style keeper league.

Any advice and feedback is greatly appreciated.

The more information you give, the better the responses. You will also get more attention that way too.

You said auction league. How many teams? What are their salarys? What does the rest of your roster look like?

Welcome smokey! ;-D

A lot is going to depend on the costs of each of the players involved, and any sort of keeper restrictions there may be.

On the face of it, it is hard to judge. Johnson is someone I really like and will hopefully bounce back from surgery and return to being a dominant starter. Most recent reports is that he is on track. Feliz is moving from the pen to the rotation, which is a good move in the long run. For the upcoming season though, he will probably be on an IP limit, which may cap his value.

I would be really cautious about possibly dealing a top prospect in a scarce position on a contender. Just my .02

Need to know the salaries of said players. But at first glance, I wouldn't take the deal. I like your collection of players better.

I would prefer the Johnson side unless the Feliz price is just unbelievably low.

If you can just copy your roster over without doing a link, that would work as well.

On just the info you gave, I would not do this deal. JJ has the upside of a #1 IF he can stay healthy. Odds are that won't happen but when he does pitch it is usually very good results. I would rather gamble that he will stay healthy then hope on any of the guys you are getting. I don't see Nova repeating last years performance, Feliz is a wild card and probably not someone I would put much money in. Both Middlebrooks and White have some good upside that could match what Nova and Feliz gets you.

Of course this is without knowing salaries which is the important information. If JJ is over-priced and Nova/Feliz are bargains then it changes the entire question.

Also, Welcome to the Cafe. This a great place to learn about fantasy baseball. Right now it is pretty slow in the forums but starting in January things will start picking up. Feel free to ask any questions you might have, their are a lot of smart, helpful people here.
