Keeper League Franchise Players WHIR

Our league has just thrown us all a curveball. Starting in 2013 we will no longer be able to keep a player for more than 3 years unless that player is Franchised. Each team will be allowed a max of 3 players to be franchised.

All players drafted after the 6th round are eligible to be kept. A max of 8 keepers per team. League established in 2003.

My current dilemma!

David Wright
Felix Hernandez
Justin Upton
Dustin Pedroia
Ian Kinsler
Matt Holliday
Andrew McCutchen

I also have Freeman, Adam Jones, Kipnis, and Jordan Zimmerman. Which one should I keep here?

Which 3 should I franchise? All the others will have to go back in the pool unless traded away to other teams who will franchise my hard work.

If you were me who would you target in trades? Goldshmidt, Lawrie, Teheran etc?

A Franchised player can be swapped out at any time.

If so I would go with Wright, Pedroia, and Upton. This would give you top 5 players at two shallow positions and a top 5 OF.

Upton is the obvious one to franchise. It would then be down to Pedroia, Wright and McCutchen for me. I love McCutchen going forward and would have a hard time not franchising him. I would then go Wright just ahead of Pedroia. I think he would complement Upton/McCutchen better.

These are guys that I have drafted and or traded for post 6th round throughout the existence of our league.

Yeah Upton is the no brainer for me too. What surprises me is that no one has said anything about King Felix! I am at odds with Wright over McCutchen, but due to the age of Cutch and his upside I have to say that the positional scarcity is the only thing holding me to Wright!

Also for the 8th keeper, Freeman?

We use c, 1b, 2b, 3b, SS, IF, OF x 4, Ut, Ut

The guys I would franchise-

1) Justin Upton - Obvious choice
2) Andrew McCutchen - High upside, young and still improving
3) Dustin Pedroia - The 2nd best 2nd baseman. Has the skill-set that won't dramatically decline. Contributes across the board and plays in a MUCH superior park and lineup compared to David Wright.

For the last keeper, I would go with Freeman. I like Jones as well, but since you should be keeping McCutchen and Upton, you could use a solid young guy at 1B.
