Help me pick my keepers

Postby moozzy77 » Sat Nov 05, 2011 11:12 pm

I would appreciate any help I can get. 12 team league with 2 keepers per team, one hitter one pitcher.
R HR RBI XBH SB AVG OBP / W L QS SV K ERA WHIP
c
1b A.Gonzalez
2b Utley
ss
3b
3OFs J.Upton
2Util

5SPs Hanson Hudson Carpenter
2RP

Those are the positions we play and keeper options for my team. Im leaning toward A.Gon and Hanson

Gonzalez and Hanson

Can't fault you for going with Upton over Gonzalez, but Gonzalez has a much better lineup around him than Upton does. More RBI and a slightly better OBP for Gonzalez vs. more SB for Upton (he isn't a great runner, not a great SB success rate). If your league is H2H, it would also decrease the value of SB a tad IMO.

Hanson is the easy choice.

Always my thought in this kind of problem, is to look and see if you could pull off a 2-1 to upgrade your SP. Does some team have two Ace type starters but not a strong bat? If so then move one of those hitters for a SP. If not then I have to with Upton and Hanson. OF is weaker than 1st base and should be able to get a good one in the draft.

Also I have the 3rd pick in the draft...the top players going in are..
Kemp
J.Upton
Bautista
Ellsburry
Car.Go

All the good 1b's are kept. Pujols Tex Votto Fielder Cabrera
I think i would rather keep agon and draft one of the remaining OF's. I assume Kemp will be the 1st pick next year. How do you rank those OF's

Kemp
Bautista

Cargo
Upton
Ellsbury

I would try to get Bautista. He should have an insanely high OBP + I think he will benefit a lot from an improved TOR lineup (full season of Rasmus and Lawrie). He can also double as a 3B with standard Yahoo settings.

I'm weary of Ellsbury repeating (not that I think he'll fall off the map), but he would be nice to have in a H2H league if you own Gonzalez. But the bottom 3 aren't as good OBP as Bautista or Kemp.

That's fine as first base is a deep position. I'd rather keep Upton, draft Kemp or Bautista and then draft a first baseman like Hosmer, Konerko or even Morse/Berkman later.

Having all those OF available in the draft does make things a little more complicated but I think I would still take Upton. He is only 24 years old and his K rate was down to a respectable level and all of his other numbers look pretty sustainable. Hard to give that up no matter how good AGon is.
