Dynasty League Trade (Votto vs. Tex) WHIR

Postby legoshoe » Sat Nov 05, 2011 7:23 pm

20 team league entering 9th year
27 player rosters (cut to 24 in the offseason)
Minor League Roster (3 round prospect draft every March)
6x6 with OPS & Holds Added.

I'm looking to rebuild my infield, add speed, and OF, and SP.

The team that finished 2nd and myself (finished 7th) have the following framework started:

I RECEIVE
Tex
Aybar
Hart
Walker
Buchholz
2nd round prospect pick

For

Votto
Machado (minor leagues)
Purke (minor leagues)
Laporta
1st round prospect pick
3rd round prospect pick

There is good and bad on both ends. I lose value by downgrading to Tex but I have Ike Davis still. I also upgrade 3B and SS over Valencia/Plouffe/Betancourt :-L . Hart will help for a couple years with Hunter declining. Buchholz will be servicable and hopefully eat innings. I don't like losing Machado. I've talked him off of wanting Brett Jackson in the deal. Thank you for reading all this detail and for your help!!!

Here is my roster and farm followed by his. Sorry for the crappy formatting. -Travis

Since I play in a similar sized league, I understand your situations at SS and 3B, but I still wouldn't make the deal. A stud ML and MiLB player are worth more in larger leagues so trading them for marginally better depth and an aging star isn't ideal. In addition, it's not like you have a top team that is looking for that bit extra to get over the hump. Every year at least a couple of WW players at each position provide adequate to good production so bank on that for now.

I like Votto and Machado more than anything you get back.

Thanks for the replies guys. What if I can get Matt Moore involved in it? 6 make the playoffs so I am hoping to make it over that hump b/c anything can happen in the postseason. I doubt he adds Moore as he called him his 'ace in the hole'. I'd like to get him involved though with Machado out there.

Even if you got Moore involved, I still wouldn't make the deal if you want to win now. Moore may help you out during the season, BUT

One thing that won't happen in the playoffs is Moore helping you win. He will most certainly be on an IP cap.

Aside from that, I like Votto a lot more than the combo of established hitters you are getting. I like Votto more than Tex. Aybar had a nice season but usually gets hurt. Neil Walker ain't bad, but he isn't going to be a star either IMO. I would wait until the half way point and if you have a chance, pull the trigger on a trade then.

Moore threw 170 innings this year, so he should reasonably be able to throw 190 innings this year. If the Rays are in the thick of the race next September, I imagine Moore would be taking the mound every 5th day.

As far as the trade offer, I would keep Votto and Machado.

I was looking back over this deal and you mentioned Brett Jackson.

I think I would be alright moving Jackson for some depth. I don't see him being much more than an average or slightly above average OF. Maybe if you take the two 1B guys out of the deal, that would be a pretty nice deal for you. You might have to rework it a little bit but that would be good depth without losing anything of that much value.

Adding Moore to the original deal does make it more attractive. I don't like that you give up Votto but you do gain an Ace type pitcher but if you had to add something to make it happen then I wouldn't do it.

MaudDib is right. Stick with Votto, and that side of the deal. You don't get enough payoff to move him.
