Need 2 more Keepers...WHIR

Postby baseballcrazy » Tue Oct 18, 2011 7:46 am

Hey i'm in a 10 team NL-only 6x6 roto league

Batting: HR, RBI, R, TB, SB, OBP
Pitching: W, K, Appearances, S, ERA, Ratio

Keeping
C: Carlos Ruiz $7
1B: Joey Votto $44
2B: Rickie Weeks $24
3B: Juan Francisco $1
MI: Troy Tulowitzki $39
CR: Yonder Alonso $10
OF: Ryan Braun $40
OF: Chris Heisey $1
UT: Ryan Roberts $1
P: John Axford $16
P: Javy Guerra $3
P: Cory Luebke $1
P: Jordan Zimmerman $7

So with this I basically have $66 to pick up 9 more players including 2 more keepers from below:
P: Ryan Vogelsong $5
C: Wilson Ramos $10
SS: Ruben Tejada $1
OF: Kyle Blanks $1
OF/1B: John Mayberry $11 (would be a definite yes, but somewhat expensive)
P: Drew Pomeranz $1
P: Homer Bailey $1
P: Sean Marshall $2
P: Jorge De La Rosa $3

So who should I take as my last two with money in mind

I was also thinking of packaging Tulo + a Mayberry or something to get Cliff Lee and change. I know a productive SS is hard to come by, especially in NL only, but if Reyes doesn't resign, I think Tejada could get the job...any input in regards to that would be helpful too

I'd keep Blanks at $1. I'm not sure Mayberry's worth $11, even in your league- he's not guaranteed FT play next year, so I'd be hard-pressed to spend more than a couple bucks on him.

Are you required to keep 6? Bailey's upside probably makes him worth locking up for $1, and I think your best option is to maximize your FA money in the draft.

Hey man.

Looking at your keepers, I'd definitely be looking to keep one cheap OF and one cheap Pitcher. Mayberry going to be a beast I think, but most guys are keeping him at $5 or even under depending on their foresight. So I think you have to give Blanks a shot at $1. Displayed nice power in the final third which means he is going to playing in that SD line-up. I personally would not worry about the low avg. with your other keepers. On the pitching side, a little tough.

de la rosa would be easy but who knows when he will be back next year and how effective would he be?
God only knows how Vogel will do next year. It is not a stretch to expect a regression and that SF rotation could be full at that 5 spot.
Same problem in Cincy especially since Chapman is getting a look at SP.
Pomeranz is young, but I bet he gets a good chance next year.

I'd probably go Baily, Vogel, Pomeranz depending on situational facts come spring training.

I'd go with Bailey and Blanks. Mayberry is a bit pricey to be keeping, with no guaranteed full playing time.

I'm thinking the same thing. But if you're not thinking Pomeranz since he may bounce back and forth between the MLB and MiLB, I'd go Marshall. Marshall's WHIP gets better each season and his SO/BB ratio is a 4.65.

Would it be worth it to keep Mayberry and try to package him with Tulo for an ace? I'm really looking for that solid starter to add to my rotation and I was looking at a $25 Lee. In an NL only, Tulo has got a lot of desirablilty...would it be reasonable to sign Mayberry and Tejada and try and make a deal or should I go with the suggested Blanks/Bailey route

OF: Kyle Blanks $1
P: Drew Pomeranz $1

Pomeranz might bounce around the minors for a while, but he could be worth hanging onto in the long run.

Blanks and Bailey would be my choice and I would hold onto Tulo no reason at all to deal him for any SP. I think that would be a huge mistake

Blanks and Bailey for me. I liked the way Bailey ended the year with regards to K's. If he can keep that up, he could be quite valuable. Pomeranz is more the long term option if you want to go that route though.
