Trade Pedroia for Trout

Postby eaglesfan » Wed Oct 12, 2011 12:32 am

Keeper league...Budget is $310. I'm getting Pedroia.

Cost to keep Pedroia is $36...Trout is $8

My only possible keepers so far are the following:

J. Garcia $13
A. Lind $15
R. Romero $15
A. McCutchen $36
R. Zimmerman $38
M. Kemp $39

You don't have a strong 2B keeper, and you've got McCutchen and Kemp to lock down your OF, so unless budget is a big concern I'd jump all over this deal.

Pedroia for $36 is probably better than Cutch or Zimm, but all 3 seem to be topped out and as such don't make great keepers. If it is a small league w/o many starting spots maybe the stars and scrubs strategy drives up prices on all the top 40 players
I think you need to provide more info about your league, Pedroia wouldn't seem to be a value at that price and Trout would most likely go for more. I sure wouldn't want Cutch at 90% of Kemps price, as much as I like him his #'s don't warrant that figure, same for Zimm

The size of the league is an important variable to consider. I think I'd make the trade, I'd also consider dropping Zimmerman, as even when healthy he wasn't worth $38 this year.

I think I would prefer Trout at those prices. When keeping players in these kinds of leagues, it is more about keeping players that are priced under their value then it is keeping studs. Trout is likely to go for more than $8 where as Pedroia and McCutchen are likely to go for similar prices are even less. Kemp is probably in the same boat as well though because of his great season he could go for more.

I agree that more info on your league would help and even giving us your entire roster would be helpful.

Auction leagues are tough to estimate prices, you have to look at what they went for last year, did they earn that; and most importantly how your league views players and operates. There are always going to be a few players that go for way more then they should; and many bargains to be had late in the auction. You have no $1-$2 players listed, or league FA minimum; these are the types of players you want to keep in an auction. In a non-auction you want to keep the best players, in an auction you want best value
I would not do that trade, and would certainly not keep Cutch and Zimm at those costs. I'd guess both go for less this year in the auction and keeping great players at or above rebid prices is a sure way to have an underperforming team. The team that starts with the most value before the 2012 auction has the best chance.I'd suggest listing your lesser players and costs and look to build off your values. I'd have to think about just keeping Kemp & Trout from your roster listed and put the rest back in the auction
