Pts League Advice

Postby stlcards02 » Tue Oct 11, 2011 2:03 am

Here's who's available as keepers for me next year in my 20-team pts league, keep 8, pts in () to show a comparison:

Longoria (635)
Kershaw (890)
Holliday (596)
Wright (450)
Shields (922)
Utley (422)
Zobrist (726)
E.Santana(677)
Masterson (610)
Kimbrel (607)

Of these, I was wanting to keep the first four for sure, leaving 4 from the other group. Most would say Shields, Utley, Zobrist, Kimbrel; but I hate to throw back the other two starters as this league craves Sp like it's nobodies business. I've been trying to package together Shields, Utley, one of Santana/Masterson for a top flight starter(Felix) to no avail, as I'd like to sell as high on Shields as I can. With that being my first option, would going after one of the young shortstops in Castro or Andrus make some sense? Moving Utley and one of those Sp's to do so, and keeping the other? That would Kimbrel on the outside, and his strikeout's are nice, but will he score near what he did come next year? I feel like I can nab a closer or two in the draft, or even some impact bats as opposed to a starter. Although there are always young talent that surprises(Beachy, Luebke).

Any opinions on the subject would be great.

I am not really a fan of Masterson so if you can turn him along with a couple other pieces for a better player, by all means do so. Those kind of deals are hard to pull off during the off-season. I also like the idea of getting Castro but giving up two pretty good players for one pretty good one seems like you might be over paying. I play in a points league and neither one of those are big points players or at least not yet. Maybe they will down the road.

I think you have the right idea, to package a few players together and upgrade another position. Those are just hard to do but I would make people aware and see what you can do. Keep in mind it is only October and many baseball owners are playing fantasy football right now and possibly a little burned out on baseball. I know in the few leagues I am in, the off-season really gets going after the holidays.
