I need to make some keeper decisions for 2012. 10-team mixed 5x5 auction league I can keep 5 players. Some seem obvious to me but I am stuck between a few. Which 5 would you take among:
Montero $7 Ellsbury $24 Ortiz $7 M. Morse $7 J. Shields $7 I. Kennedy $6 S. Strassburg $4 T. Hanson $11 C. Hamels $25 M. Moore $7
To Me, Shields, Kennedy and Strassburg seem like locks and I lean towards Ellsbury/Hanson (healthy for 2012?) for the other two, but a few others seem to have some value here and I appreciate all thoughts. Thanks!

i agree with you that strasburg, shields, and kennedy are no-brainers at those prices.
ellsbury is having an mvp-caliber season. i've never played in an auction league (so i don't know how hi the prices go in yours) but i think you probably have to keep him.
ortiz for $7 also seems like a bargain for the RBI and HR production. he also should be neutral in runs and AVG, with the potential to be positive in AVG.
i really like moore, but that price is a bit steep since he probably will make at least 2 months worth of AAA starts before getting called up. and i wouldn't extrapolate the one start against the yankees to a whole year. a really good year for an AL rookie pitcher is one like pineda had, and his ERA/wins are so-so. also, moore is in the AL East.

The last spot is between Hanson and Ortiz. If you've got time to decide, then I'd wait to see how Hanson's shoulder checks out. If you don't have time, I'd go with Ortiz as keeping Hanson right now would be a big risk. It could also be wise considering you've already kept 3 pitchers in the list above. I find in auction leagues pitchers tend to be last drafted and thus some of those middle round guys (in a snake draft) tend to come at bargain prices.
