Lester or Kennedy in a keeper?

Postby hoopsgalnyc » Thu Sep 22, 2011 3:48 pm

Standard 5x5, 12-team roto league.

We keep 6 guys.

Keeper-quality guys on my team:

Batters:
Votto
Teixeira
Pedroia
Reyes
Michael Young
Josh Hamilton

Pitchers:
Lester
Kennedy
CJ Wilson

I don't have to decide till February who to keep.

Last year, my keepers were:
Votto, Tex, Pedroia, Hamilton, Reyes, Lester

I'm inclined to keep hitting over pitching, so I will likely keep the same 5 hitters.

Should I consider Kennedy (or CJ Wilson) over Lester? My gut says keep Lester for consistency of results.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I agree with Lester of Kennedy because of a longer track record. I generally agree about keeping hitters over pitchers, but I would still consider keeping Kennedy over Teixeira. You already have Votto at 1B, and you should have lots of power options at CI. Teixeira's not helping in anything but power really.

I would keep the same 6. Lester vs. Kennedy is close. Kennedy is an NLwest pitcher which is far more appealing than an ALeast pitcher, but imo Lester's history vs Kennedy's lack of one is the tiebreaker. I wouldn't consider keeping Kennedy over Tex though

Thank you for your replies. Even though Tex's average is down, he is so excellent in counting stats (he has the ability to lead the league in HR, RBI and runs), I'm inclined to keep him over a starter.

Mad Dog, thank you for your advice. I'm more inclined to keep Kennedy or Lester than Young. They were both born in '84, while Young was born in '76. Also, I will pick either 11th or 12th overall in my league's draft. I guarantee Lester and Kennedy will be gone by then. Young might stick around. In my keeper league, he went in the 11th, 12th, and 13th round of the draft in 2011, 2010, and 2009. (The first 6 rounds of the draft are keepers.)

Yeah, I'd have to keep Lester or probably even Kennedy over the lack-of-loved Young.

RedHopeful, thanks. I'm definitely not keeping Young. So would you keep Lester or Kennedy? Why?

I guess the only other way to go would be keep both and don't keep Hamilton. He is "only" going to go 25/100/300 with less than 10 sb's and you could have received that from all 3 KC OF'ers more or less. Hamilton is always going to have more risk than most. The safest and smartest route is just keep Lester over Kennedy, but depending how many OF you start this would be the only other option that allows you to keep both aces and eliminate the biggest injury risk of your keepers

I would go with Lester. Lester still has a ton of upside in my opinion. His stuff is not close to topping out and he will only get better. Kennedy is young but I can't see him being better than what he is doing now.
