Fielder will be gone, Hart will be gone, Milwaukee is making 1 big run this year, next year W's could be very hard to come by
Disagree. While Fielder will likely be gone, Hart will be back, he signed an extension through 2013. They can replace Fielder with Mat Gamel, a .319/.378/.562 hitter in AAA who would be a defensive and baserunning upgrade over Fielder. Or with the money saved from Prince, K-Rod, and Betancourt, they could sign/trade for a decent veteran 1B. With the savings on Fielder, they also should be able to sign somebody, anybody who's an upgrade over Betancourt at SS (like a Clint Barmes or something). They could still trot out a competitive lineup next year, something like:
C: Jonathan Lucroy
1B: Mat Gamel/Veteran 1B
2B: Rickie Weeks
3B: Casey McGehee/Taylor Green/FA or trade
SS: Clint Barmes or some sort of non-Betancourt option
LF: Ryan Braun
CF: Nyjer Morgan/Carlos Gomez platoon
RF: Corey Hart
By removing Prince, Yuni and possibly Casey...that defense improves significantly. That alone would boost Zach's stock, the defense in Milwaukee has been terrible...it would help his ERA creep closer to his FIP. And that lineup can still hit, granted it hurts a bit without Prince in the middle.
They'll also still have Axford closing out games, so that'll help Zach get wins as well.
Along with a rotation of Grienke/Marcum/Gallardo/Wolf/Narveson or Peralta, this is a team that can still compete in '12, just in a different way...great pitching, improved defense, good enough offense.
