John Mayberry Jr.

I know he may not be too much help this year unless your're in deeper leagues or Ibanez is down for some time but I have some thoughts. I've watch nearly every Phillies game this year and Mayberry doesn't look like a player just having a good streak, more like someone who has figured it out. He's hitting balls hard all the time now and thats clear in his stats. The guy was a first round pick so he has the talent and people are asking if he could compare to a Werth or Morse in that he just figures it out later than others. He has a good eye at the plate and currently with 12 HR in 193 Ab's with a .539 SLG. Just wondering what other thoughts on him may be

I like him in NL-Only, and would love for him to be the next Morse. Not many players are more successful in the majors than they were in the minors though. He'd definitely be interesting if he had a starting spot for the Phillies next year. However, he seems blocked to me with Pence-Victorino-Brown being the Phillies likely 2012 OF. Would they start him over Brown?

I think it would be stupid to play Brown if he hits the way he is currently and Mayberry stays this solid. Remember Mayberry hit 21,30, and 20 HR in 3 straight years in the minors before being bounced around between minors and majors. He has changed his approach at the plate and it has paid off. He seems so locked in at the plate as of late. Takes balls just off the plate and rips anything thrown in the zone and I could get used to seeing more swings like this:

And throws like this:

I agree completely. I'm a Braves fan so I have watched a lot of Phillies games this year, and Mayberry certainly looks like a player who has figured things out.
Every time I see him hit I'm always curious why he doesn't get more playing time.
