East Coast Earthquake

Postby DbacksRback » Tue Aug 23, 2011 2:04 pm

That was the first earthquake I've ever felt in my life and I live by Philly. Anyone else feel that?
Apparently it happened in Virginia and was a 5.9/6.0

Funny, I checked out my Google Plus a few minutes ago, and all the fuss was about this quake. 5.9 is pretty serious for you nancy boys out there.

Well, earthquakes can happen anywhere in places you wouldn't envision having quakes. Haiti was a relatively "random" place to suffer a high-magnitude tremor, for example. It's just that they're more frequent and deadlier in places where tectonic plates clash.

I'd say what you guys experienced out there is more of a once every 200 years phenomenon than anything.

Less than 30 miles from the epicenter here. Not exaggerating when I say it felt like someone picked my house up and started shaking it. Surreal.

Weirdest thing I've ever felt in my life. Shook pretty good for about 30 seconds here in NY.

Apparently they felt the thing all the way up to Toronto and down to Florida. 8-o
