Heyward/CJ Wilson for Josh Johnson/Rasmus - Keeper - WHIR!

Postby Bea Arthur » Sat Aug 13, 2011 10:24 am

20 team, H2H (OBP vs. AVG), keeper league (5 keepers). A day away from deadline and I got offered JJ and Rasmus for Heyward and CJ Wilson. My team is pretty mediocre this year....I'm currently in the last playoff spot, but don't expect to advance far this year. Heyward was a keeper for me last year, but I'm running out of patience, and see him and Rasmus being basically a wash, but JJ being an upgrade over CJ for next year. Thoughts? WHIR!

My keepers for next year would be:

Votto
Cano
Crawford
JJ
Then for 5th slot: Hosmer, Rasmus, Gio or Carlos Santana

I definitely think Heyward has more potential then Rasmus. But JJ has way more potential then CJ Wilson, he just seems to always get injured.

So it really comes down to if you want the better hitter or the elite pitcher. I am leaning towards Heyward but it is very very close.

I think this is a fair deal both ways. So, whether you do it or not really comes down to which players you believe in. I'm not the biggest CJ Wilson fan. At the same time, I think Rasmus still has a chance to make good on his potential (especially now that he is out of STL), but I like Heyward better. I don't think there is a clear answer here, but I'd probably err on the side of hanging on to offense right now as it seems harder to come by than pitching.

I like the Rasmus/JJ side better. Slightly better, but better nonetheless. The Blue Jays lineup is more potent than the Braves and Heyward has a lot of potential but I agree in that he has been frustrating and the injury bug could lead to some bad things. But at the same time he could turn out very nicely despite the injury this year. And JJ is definitely much better than CJ but you do have to worry about the injury problems with him as well. TEX is a tough place to pitch and just based on talent alone I'll take JJ. Thanks for the help on mine!

jj should be good to go next year considering he will have had pretty much a year off between the last 2 seasons of him missing time. i would gamble on him, i like rasmus more than heyward too because of injuries. it is basically a super stud pitcher with injury problems and a potential stud in rasmus with no real injury problems for a stud pitcher and an OF with a lot of injury problems. to me heyward is almost as much of an injury risk as jj

Heyward's not the first player to have a rough second year. Although my link below is to a thread where I consider (or should have posted that I'd consider) trading him, I still think that there's going to come a time when those of us who pull that trigger on a 22-year-old widely expected at 20-21 to become the bet player in baseball are going to have egg on our faces.

JJ's got a shoulder injury. I just dropped Johan in my keeper. Shoulders don't end well. You don't want that risk.
