Ethier vs Willingham

Postby yanks2327 » Fri Aug 12, 2011 4:35 pm

Who would you rather have for the remainder of the season - Andre Ethier or Josh Willingham?

Ethier's power and run production have been somewhat disappointing this year. That said, his avg is consistently over .300, despite some numbers that indicate it may be inflated.

Willingham has been one of the hottest bats over the last month, and is capable of putting up above average power numbers here on out. But his K rate has been quite a bit over his career avg (which may help explain his recent HR totals).

Who would you pick? Again, non-keeper just the rest of this year.

Well do you need AVG or power?

Obviously, if you need AVG go with Ethier.

If you need power, go with Willingham.

Yea, that's how I was thinking about it, usually the most common sense approach makes most sense.

So I guess what I'm really looking for is perspectives around Willingham's ability to maintain his current level of production for the next 2 months.

I definitely could see Willingham continue to hit for power, but he will also keep his .240 BA the rest of the way I'm sure.

Ethier has much more upside, and after reading this I'm starting to think you might should stick with him instead of Josh:

Ethier's not being in the starting lineup raised a few eyebrows, but Mattingly reassured everyone that 29-year-old is not hurt. Good thing because he is finally started to heat up after making some adjustments at the plate. He is batting .370 with one home run and four RBI over his last seven games and could be poised for a big final two months of the season. Fantasy owners should continue to roll with Ethier in the majority of formats moving forward.
