how bout Jeremy Sowers????
in his last 10 starts, here are some stats---
he gave up more than 3 runs once(4)
and went 6-1 over that span.
2 CG SHO
pitched 65 2/3 innings
era of 2.34
only gave up 3 hr

his k #'s are not great but he can give quality starts.he was shut down early and will be starting this year. Any thoughts on him?

I have both Hudson and Myers in a points league (where Im a bit over my IP projections and am looking for quality starts til it calms down a bit), and I was wondering your guys' take on who (if either) of these guys I should start tomorrow?

I had a couple boring ones in classifieds, but this was my first real post here.

I would say Soriano for now...another person people are really overlooking is Miguel Cabrera...he had an incredible year if you look at the #'s and he is valuable in every part of the game. Also, for leagues using real life salaries, he has an extremely low one.

In a thread voting on who the Cafe's 2004 all-star starting lineup would be-

I think you have to put bonds in the starting lineup over berkman or beltran. Bonds has more runs, home runs, and a better average than both beltran and berkman. And that's not even considering how many fewer AB he has. Berkman has about 70 more AB and Beltran has about 110 more AB. The only reason Bonds isn't far surpassing them both is because he's always walked. In an All-Star game the pitchers aren't going to walk Bonds to get to someone weaker in the lineup. He's a better hitter than the other two and is more deserving of a starting spot.

Pretty much just been giving A+ advice since Day 1...

Now may be a time to sell high on Adam Eaton. You may be able to pick up a more reliable 1B for him, or another big closer as insurance.

Eaton had a 3.18 ERA at the time through 79.1 IP with 61 K and was 9 - 1.

As said a number of times...your offense is outstanding (especially for a 14 team league)...if I was looking for fault in your offense I'd say you could use a few more SB's since Castillo isn't the bag-swiper that he used to be, and it remains to be seen how much the Yankees will let Shef run.

Moving on...I actually think your starters are solid. While you don't have a top 10 guy, I think you have two top 20 guys in Mussina and Beckett, and Clement (who had a solid second half last year and has the ability to win 17-18 games if he learns how to pitch well on the road) is a top 25-30 guy with plenty of upside. Three top 30 starters in a 14 team league is good. If you want to improve upon that, I'd suggest either packaging an aging Mussina with a quality (but not exceptional) offensive player for a true ace, or trading a solid offensive player like Cabrera for a quality starter of similar caliber (maybe target someone with a crappy SS so you can get a little more than standard value for Cabrera).

By simple mathematics, it's clear that adding two categories will devalue each individual category. So you're right about saves not being as important as in a roto league or a standard 10 team H2H format. I finished second last season to a guy who did the same thing...he dominated the regular season without a closer...so I'm not going to tell you not to do it. But if your offense ends up not being as dominant as it appears it's going to be, you're in big trouble. It's a risk to do what you're doing, but you obviously have experience with the strategy, so do it if you feel your offense has no peer in your league.

Plus, if you win the holds category every week, you're right that the loss of the saves category will cancel it out...so that means you basicly start each week 1-1, with 10 other categories to compete for, 6 of which are offense (your strong suit)...

Looking again at your roster, I'd suggest trading for a starter with low era/whip numbers like Hudson...you still must have really strong starters if you want to employ your strategy, and I find a starter who eats up innings and has a low era/whip is really able to anchor a pitching staff.
