I was just offered a trade where I get James Shields and I trade away Brandon Phillips. My pitching was solid first half of the year but my guys have been struggling since the All-Star Break. I feel like I need to make a change to really be comfortable with the season coming to a close. I am currently in third place but can jump to first any given week (fell from first last week). Top 4 teams in my league have a comfortable lead as of now. Not a keeper league with Yahoo! standard score settings. Not sure if this is the trade I want to do or keep shopping some other players around for a different pitcher. Help??? WHIR!!!

Without knowing what pitching and hitting categories you need help in, I would lean towards NOT making that trade. Shields is a fantastic pitcher and the few recent stuggles he's had seem to be somewhat anomalies, but his FIP and xFIP show he's been lucky and he should see some regression. That combined with him being in the AL East, with some of the MLB's best hitters, and a good chance of facing the Rangers in Arlington makes me think he should have some rough starts sprinkled in with the inevitable good ones. I have Phillips on my team too and know he's injured right now, but he should be fine as soon as tomorrow and he has a pretty great offense around him in Cincinnati. This is less important, but the Reds are also slightly closer to playoff contention than the Rays, so perhaps they will be more motivated to hit around Phillips than the Rays will be to hit for Shields.
Help back please?

I agree with the poster above. I think the september schedule with tor, bos and NYY will be brutal. I'd package Bonifacio with Phillips for a more proven guy with a lighter schedule, like a Kershaw (might be steep price), Cain, Gallardo, Etc.

If anything I'd dump Rasmus for streaming 2 start favorable matchup pitchers and not deal for a sell high.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
