Ervin Santana(notes) pitched the first solo no-hitter for the Angels in nearly 27 years, striking out 10 batters to lead Los Angeles over the Cleveland Indians 3-1 on Wednesday.
Santana allowed two runners—an error on the leadoff batter that resulted in a first-inning run and a walk in the eighth.
Santana (6-8) threw the Angels’ first complete-game no-hitter since Mike Witt’s perfect game on Sept. 30, 1984, against Texas. Mark Langston (7 innings) and Witt (2 innings) combined to hold Seattle hitless on April 11, 1990.
Impressive, as this was quite a decent Cleveland line up.
The Giants and Mets reached a tentative agreement that will send right fielder Carlos Beltran and $4MM to San Francisco for pitching prospect Zack Wheeler, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.
I think this is an overpay, seeing as Beltran can't be offered arbitration. Thoughts?
The Blue Jays acquired starter Edwin Jackson and third baseman Mark Teahen from the White Sox for reliever Jason Frasor and starter Zach Stewart, announced the teams. Contrary to an earlier report, no cash will change hands in the deal.
An eight-player deal was struck today, as the Blue Jays announced they've acquired center fielder Colby Rasmus and pitchers Trever Miller, Brian Tallet, and P.J. Walters from the Cardinals for starter Edwin Jackson, relievers Marc Rzepczynski and Octavio Dotel, outfielder Corey Patterson, and three players to be named later or cash considerations. ESPN's Buster Olney first tweeted the full details.
This is a enormous and amazing victory for Alex Anthopoulos at first glance. The only things that may turn the tide a little, are if the players named later are of high quality and not imaginary, or if Dave Duncan figures out how to make Rzeppelin into a decent starter.
Anyone know if timmy really is pitching tonight? I read reports he still isn't feeling well and I'll be there at the game and don't wanna see Kendrick vs. Voglesong or whoever would get thrown in there
Loved Greinke's start last night but bittersweet since it was his last for my team, as I just traded him away. Hopefully he starts getting shelled so I don't regret it.
No pitchers going today. Offense was deplorable yesterday so hopefully they turn that around. I'd really like Tulo and/or Bruce to catch fire again sometime soon.
Via The Kyoto News, former Yankee Hideki Irabu was found dead at his Los Angeles home today. He was 42. Police are currently investigating a possible suicide.
Really sad. I was at his first start for the Yankees. People were going nuts.
She said always remember never to trust me She said that the first night that she met me She said "there's gonna be a time when I'm gonna have to go with whoever's gonna get me the highest."
