Should I pick up Santana or Jackson? WHIR

Postby yankeez66814 » Wed Jul 27, 2011 10:07 pm

So Edwin Jackson and Johan Santana are on waivers and I like Jackson on the Cardinals and Santana has never really struggled in his career, so I expect him to be pretty good when he comes back. My team is:
C - Victor Martinez
1B - Eric Hosmer (Morneau is killing me)
2B - Danny Espinosa
3B - Alex Gordon (Expected more out of A-Rod too)
SS - Troy Tulowitzki
IF - Carlos Pena
OF - Matt Holliday
OF - Carl Crawford
OF - Melky Cabrera
OF - Brett Gardner
Util - Nick Markakis
B - Pedro Alvarez
B - Coco Crisp
DL - Alex Rodriguez
DL - Justin Morneau

SP - Cliff Lee
SP - Matt Cain
SP - Yovani Gallardo
RP - Brian Wilson
RP - Joe Nathan
P - J.J. Putz
P - Chad Billingsley
P - Wandy Rodriguez
P - Jordan Zimmermann
B - Bartolo Colon
B - Ryan Dempster
B - Francisco Liriano
B - Erik Bedard

As you can see, I have plenty of starting pitchers, as I have 10, meaning I would probably have to drop one in favor of Jackson or Santana. The only guys I would consider dropping are Liriano because his 84/55 K/BB ratio just isn't doing it for me, Dempster because he's struggling again, but I like his K's and he'd be my last option to drop out of these guys, and Zimmermann because he's on an innings limit and figures only to have about 5 starts left, and even he's hit a rough patch. So it comes down to picking 3 out of Liriano, Jackson, Santana, Dempster, and Zimmermann. I have also considered dropping Crisp, but his 27 steals are useful and I would be up to 11 starters. I am in 4th place right now, and 4 teams make the playoffs, if that changes anything. Let me know what you guys think, thanks a lot

I would be fine dropping Dempster or Pedro.

I would pick up Jackson. He has started to turn things around and is now pitching in the NL.

I would drop Dempster and pick up Jackson, for the same reason as above, in NL and turning it around

Duncan should be able to help out Jackson big-time. Just look for Duncan has done for guys like Westbrook and Penny over the last couple years.

As for who you would drop...I'm not sure. I might even consider dropping BFBC (Big Fat Bartolo Colon), just because I think he's about to hit a serious brick wall, but I totally understand Dempster...and what about Bedard? Have you considered him?

Yes, I have considered dropping Bedard, but he's been really good when he's been in there, and has enough control not to walk 55 guys like Liriano. I haven't considered dropping Colon, as he's been like my 3rd or 4th best starter for awhile now. He may hit a brick wall, but I don't want to drop him until he does. I think Liriano and Dempster are my least favorite, so I think I might pick up Santana and Jackson and drop Liriano and Dempster.
