So far this year my team's ERA is 3.27, 3rd best in my league. I've used 912 innings against a 1400 cap, so I've got 488 IP left. What ERA would I need to get in those last 488 IP to bring my season total down to below 3.00? Is it possible/feasible/likely?

3.27 = (ER * 9) / 912
Current ER = (3.27 * 912) / 9 = 331.36 (331)
3.00 = (ER * 9) / 1400
Required ER = (3.00 * 1400) / 9 = 466.66 (467)
ER diff: (467 - 331) = 136
ERA needed over 488 IP = (136 * 9) / 488 =
2.51 Unless my math is wrong.

Well going by that you've let up around 331 ER in your 912 innings for your current era. To have a 3.00 you'll have to let up less than 466 ER in the 1400 innings. Since you've let up about 331 ER the rest of the way if you hit your innings of 1400 on the dot you can only allow 135 more runs the rest of the way. So 135/488 x 9 = 2.49

Nevermind Bwannas right...my era calculates to 2.99 where using 467 makes it 3.00

Thanks guys. I guess it might be possible to pull that off, but I don't think I'd call it likely.

Well, your answer is technically correct since he's shooting for an ERA *under* 3.00.

Load up on middle relievers.

I've got Kershaw, Hamels, and Haren for most of the heavy lifting, but yeah...that's not a bad idea.

I think a very good idea would only start those 3 and maybe spot start the rest with a bunchof solid MR behind them
