Should I look to move Strasburg(keeper league)?

Postby dubstar » Thu Jul 21, 2011 11:37 pm

I have Strasburg, and he is drawing some interest from some teams in my league. This is a keeper league, we keep 6 and they move up 1 round each year. I need to figure out if I would even keep him, and then decide whether or not to try to move him with another player for something to help me this win it all this year(I've been leading my division all year). I will list the rounds that players can be kept next year. I have good value on a few players late.

10 Team h2H keeper:
OBP, R, HR, RBI, SB, XBH
W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, QS

C Santana(19th)
1B Gonzalez(1st)
2B Johnson
3B Peralta
SS Andrus
OF Kemp(3rd), Cruz, Holliday(3rd)
UTIL Crawford(2nd)
BN Bourn, Cuddyer

SP Hanson(18th), Wilson, Scherzer, Chacin(14th), Lewis, Billingsley, Carrasco
RP Valverde, Perez, Nunez
DL Strasburg(17th), Buchholz

Your pitching seems a bit thin for a 10 teamer.

I'd try target another top SP or hang onto Strasburg and hope he comes back strong. Sell the fact that he was hitting 95 on the gun. Maybe you can buy low on Hanson`s implosion this evening :)

Those are probably the 6 guys I would keep which means that I would look to keep Strasburg. He has a ton of potential and at that cost for the next 5 years, he should be a steal. I would hold on to him and see what he does next year. If he struggles you will still find people willing to buy him with that low of a draft pick.

Only worry I have about your keepers is Crawford with a 2nd. Really depends on how the second half works for him.

Yea that's my gut thought too. The only difference, is I was really wanting to keep Santana over Crawford. Such good value on Santana if he turns into a younger V-Mart.

It definitely is thin, it has been all year. Not sure what you mean about buying low on Hanson, I have Hanson now. I got him and Holliday for R Zimmerman and Rasmus a while back.

I would keep Strasburg, but only because we haven't seen enough of him to warrant any speculation.

The Nats aren't rushing him back (or so it seems) and they will be contenders not too long from now. The injury was probably a blessing in disguise because it will force him to become more of a pitcher and less of a thrower.

He will be on my list come draft time next year. :-)

Sorry, didn't check your lineup. He just struck me as someone who you could possibly target due to his poor start last night :-D

Strasburg is even more valuable than normal in your 6x6 format that includes QS. He could dominate 5 of the 6 cats. I wouldn't trade him unless you were getting a proven top player that can also be kept at a cheap cost.

If you can get a top 20 pitcher from a rebuilding team, I'd do it. But I wouldn't get a mid tier guy. We have no idea how Stras will hold up in the next few years and you got to be in it to win it. I wouldn't count on him coming back this year even with his throwing off the mound.
