Trade fair or collusion?

Postby Asfan4life09 » Thu Jul 21, 2011 12:24 pm

15 team 5x5 roto keeper league where teams can keep up to 4 players with a 2 rd penalty for each year players are kept on a team.

Recent trade that caused a lot of controversy is Strasburg for Cliff Lee. The team that got Lee is in contention to place and cash while the other team is middle of the pack. Some owners are upset and think their is collusion, while others think it's a reasonable trade given the keeper format. Thoughts?

Sounds like a few in your league need their diapers changed and maybe take a nap too. Totally legit deal in a keeper league. My assumption is that Strasburg might even be kept at a later round than Lee too. I'm curious, what are the keeper costs for each?

Strasburg was a 13th rd pick and Lee was a 1st rd pick. Therefore, Lee would still be a 1st rd pick if kept by that team and Strasburg would be an 11th rd pick if kept for 2012.

I agree 100%. I think it's a great trade by both owners. The other owner's are likely just jealous they didn't make a move as bold.

Collusion occurs when when a team in your league knowingly trades away more value than it receives as a way to help out another owner.

A trade that is perceived to be lopsided (and this one isn't to me) is not indicative of collusion. 99 out of 100 times a bad trade is the result of poor judgement or inexperience on the part of one owner. For that one bad trade that is a result of collusion it's next to impossible to prove. I think people confuse collusion with trades that have the potential to upset the competitive balance of the league. Vetoing based on that is a whole other story.
