Can't Seem to Buy a Closer in My 20 Team H2H Keeper

Postby mm92280 » Tue Jul 19, 2011 9:57 pm

I am in desperate need of a closer, as I've been doing patch work there throughout the season (basically since the draft). I have Mike Adams and am crossing my fingers that Bell gets traded and that I can pick up another quality closer somehow and actually have 2 quality options there. So far, I've had absolutely no luck, though I've offered Alex Gordon in a 1-for-1 to several owners in the league. I know closers can be tough to come by in a 20 team league (since there are only 30 of them) but I would still think an outfielder who can hit (Gordon) in a league of this size would be able to bring me one in return. Am I correct in thinking that Gordon should be good enough to bring me a quality closer back in a 1-for-1 deal? If so, what type of mid-level closer do you think I should be able to return?

To give you a little more info, in my most recent attempt, I offered an owner in my league Gordon for Joe Nathan in a 1-for-1 deal (he has 3 current closers now that Nathan is back working the 9th) and he declined the deal and turned around and offered me his Carlos Marmol for my Carlos Gonzalez. I'm pretty sure he realized that wasn't going to happen and wasn't a legitimate offer, so he cancelled it before I could even log-in and get to it.

This is 20 team H2H keeper league. We count the usual offensive categories but also count OPS as well. We could the usual pitching categories but we also do count holds.

Here is my roster, as it now stands:

C: C. Santana (C, 1B)
1B: R. Howard (1B)
2B: B. Zobrist (2B, RF)
SS: C. D'Arnaud (SS)
3B: L. Chisenhall (3B)
LF: C. Gonzalez (LF, CF, RF)
CF: D. Stubbs (CF)
RF: T. Snider (RF, LF)
Util: A. Gordon (LF)
Util: E. Thames (LF, RF)
Bn: M. Ellis (2B)
Bn: P. Alvarez (3B)
Bn: N. Reimold (LF)
Bn: B. Allen (LF, 1B)
DL: J. Lowrie (SS, 2B, 3B)

SP: C. Hamels
SP: A. Sanchez
SP: J. Karstens
SP: R. Dempster
SP: T. Stauffer
SP: H. Bailey
RP: M. Adams
RP: E. O'Flaherty

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, I'd figure you should be able to land a closer with Gordon too. However, since your league counts holds, I'd suggest just going that route until your situation changes (like Adams moving into a closer role).
