Too much to give up for A.Gonzalez? WHIR

Postby larrywilson » Fri Jul 15, 2011 8:53 am

I'm in a 16 team league, and the owner of A.Gonzalez has offered me Gonzalez for Ortiz, Berkman and C.Pena. I already offered him Ortiz, Pena and Ackley, but he's not interested. I would really like to get gonzalez but think I'm giving up too much in that deal (although I'm getting the best player). FAs available on the waiver wire are pretty slim, so I'd have to start ackley in my OF slot (or jennings once he's called up), but would have a monster 1B/util platoon in pujols and gonzalez. I have good depth given the size of the league (pena's stuck sitting on my bench) so I don't mind giving up a little too much in a trade as long as I'm getting premier talent back. I'm also in first place and have been putting up some very good offensive numbers recently. Should I make this deal? If I get the other owner to add j.hellickson to the trade, should I make that trade?

I like the deal. You are giving up a decent amount but Adrian is really really good this year and well worth parting with 2 starts to get. Plus Ackley has been doing fine so far this year. Another option would be to trade Soto and Ackley for an upgraded OF.

This would be so much easier if Tampa would just call up Jennings already.

This is a very fair deal, and I could argue both sides. Can you get him to give you a bench outfielder? If so, I'd do it.

Serious overpay here who would be your #3 OF if you did this deal? I know Berkman and Ortiz are not getting any younger but are you serious? That is too much for one player. Pena is expendable. How about your Ortiz and something for his Agoz.

Though the one thing is if it clears up room to grab a SP or two for depth (Zimm shut down for the stretch run) I might do it anyway if you can grab a solid back end starter and an OF off the ww that won't kill you. I know its 16 teams. What is available by chance?

I just think you are overpaying here.

That is about the value you are gonna pay for a top 5 player. Hopefully there's someone like Snider or Garrett Jones available to pick up. If not I'd definitely ask for an OF's as well.
