It's a Deli (a place that makes cold cut and hot sandwiches, has fresh potato/macaroni salads, etc.) that is local to you... here in NY (and I presume everywhere) there are two types: your Jewish Deli, and your Italian Deli.
So it's a sandwich shop? How exciting

I should have elaborated -- that seems to be the way that Delis have been everywhere I have traveled and actually been to one, which is pretty limited to the Northeast; I don't typically go looking for a Deli if I'm traveling outside of NY/NJ. As for a Jewish Deli, you've got one of the most famous Delis in the U.S., the Carnegie Deli, in Manhattan, which offers things like potato pancakes and matzoh ball soup; or Katz's Delicatessen where Meg Ryan's famous fake orgasm scene was filmed in When Harry Met Sally -- Jewish Delis often serve kosher food.
