Trading Kershaw?

Postby stlcards02 » Thu Jul 14, 2011 4:07 pm

Long story short, I've been getting offers from basically every team and their mothers for Kershaw. I'll list a few of them here. First, here is our league settings: 20-team H2H pts, 8 keepers, we use QS over Wins, pts for CG's and Shutouts, 1.2 per K, and 3 per inning pitched. Should I feel like I should consider any of these, or just sit tight and keep my young ace while I sit in 2nd place?

Give: Kershaw
Get: Haren, Cruz
(This would be with the 1st place/defending champ team who is stacked in pitching(Verlander, Hanson, Lee, Bumgarner, Kennedy, Cueto, Gio), Cruz would be nice to add as well)

Give: Kershaw, Ackley
Get: Jaime Garcia, Pedroia, Morse
(This team also already has Greinke and Cain, Morse would upgrade Loney, and Pedroia is Pedroia)

There are a ton others, but these two were the most notable, I thought. Here's my team btw:

C: Buck
1B: Loney
2B: Utley
3B: Longoria
SS: Escobar
OF: Brantley
OF: Zobrist
OF: Holliday
Util: V.Wells
Util: Ackley
Bn: Dom Brown
Bn: Trout
Dl: I.Davis

P: Ubaldo-
P: Kershaw
P: Shields
P: Walden
P: Kimbrel
Bn: Pineiro
Bn: Masterson
Bn: Floyd
Bn: Farnsworth
Bn: Zambrano
DL: Blanton

You are getting some decent offers in return but I don't think I would. Having Kershaw in a 20 team league is going to do you well.

Yeah Kershaw is one of the top keepers on your team...only Longoria may be higher. I'd want more for him...Any trade where you are giving up top player sucks...you should get an elite guy in return for a top keeper.

1st trade not that bad, but Haren is 30 (vs Kershaw - 23) and Cruz is solid but injury-prone and older too. (and you can find OFers with power)

2nd trade is bad.

I'd look for a 1B if you consider even trading him...or maybe try to trade some of the older guys for a young SP or two. I would try not to trade your best SP at all, since you are not that deep there anyhow.

I agree with this. That second trade is terrible (Ackley and Kershaw are both young studs that you need to hang on to). First trade is good talent wise, but as he pointed out Kershaw is 7 years younger than Haren.

That Haren and Cruz offer isn't too bad at least you'd be getting an ace back. Your rotation is kinda shaky right now and Kershy is your one proven young ace. Ubaldo (trust issue) Shields (meh worry there)?
