Quick turnaround: Upton for Jeter, WHIR

Postby ROC AllStars » Wed Jul 13, 2011 7:10 pm

10 team fantasy points league.

I've been offered Jeter for BJ Upton. I'm considering it, as I have Drew starting at SS, whom I have no faith in, and the WW is really weak at SS. My OF is deep, if it stays healthy: Crawford (DL), Berkman, Gordon, Ethier, Upton, Gardner, Heyward.

Questions:
Is Jeter worth Upton, considering Upton's recent uptick?
Will Berkman/Gordon stay healthy, continue to produce?
Will Heyward turn around his dismal season?

WHIR, leave a link...

I would think you could get more than Jeter for BJ Upton. At worst make it a 2-2 deal in which you get a good upgrade on the second player. If it's just Jeter for Upton I think you should pass.
Why less faith in Drew than Jeter anyway? Neither is a great option but still, Jeter is basically done. He has a rare big game every few weeks sandwiched between a zillion weak groundouts and whiffs on fastballs he used to hammer.

I'd try to get a bit more too ... I like Jeter but his peripherals aren't as good as Upton's.

I'm not a huge Jeter fan... I had him most of the first half and got rid of him. The dude has hit 3 HR all season, and 2 were in one game. Don't get too sucked up in the 5-5 performance he just had, total fluke based on what we have seen the rest of the season, at least so far. You get a better AVG from Jeter, but until the 5-5, he was batting .245 so that is a little tainted, similar runs, and significantly more steals, RBI and HR from BJ .... I'd stick w/BJ.

BJ is power and steals, and more attractive on market than Jeter. Shop BJ for more.

BJ SHOULD theoretically bring more in, but in reality I'm not so sure. He's been one of the most frustrating fantasy players of the last 5 years.

He has the most value on your team, because I doubt you'll get back what you should. Drew and Jeter are a wash--you would not be upgrading at all. In fact, there's a chance you could be downgrading.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)
