I would be giving up Bruce for Bourne. Head to head Bruce is the better player, but I really need stolen bases as I currently have two points in that category. If Bourne produces in the second half of the season like he did in the first half, I can expect to finish with nine points in stolen bases. I am currently leading the league in runs, home runs, and RBIs by a wide margin, and I have good power hitters on my bench in Carlos Pena and Danny Espinosa. Should I make this deal? Thanks and WHIR.
Value-wise I'm taking Drew Stubbs all-day, but you mention you're looking for steals. If this is a keeper league I wouldn't even consider the deal, unless you have much better options than Stubbs. Although Bourne beat Stubbs for the first half of the year in steals (by a margin of 12 steals), I would expect them to be even a little closer for the latter half of the season. Although, Bourne will most likely win in steals for the year and the 2nd half between the two, it's not going to be at such a margin that would make this deal worthy. I say hang on to Stubbs. He'll get you steals at almost a comparable rate of Bourne, but have better overall numbers. Both players aren't too far off for the rest of the season in production, but I would still much rather own Bruce going into the second half of the season. Cheap steals do come via FA as well. Just keep an eye out on what guys are doing of recent in regard to steals. I suspect players like Jason Borgeoius will produce some crazy steals throughout the 2nd half of the season. Also, remember that steals is just one category, just as saves are. One category that has little correlation to the other 4 offensive statistics. Example, when you're getting home runs from a guy you're getting rbis, when you're getting batting avg, you're getting runs. Steals don't necessarily correlate to any of those statistics. So, you're better off bagging steals than any of the other stats. In other words, don't press too much for steals, especially when you already have a guy like Stubbs. Hope this helps!
Huh? I don't own Stubbs. He doesn't have anything to do with this. I'm not in danger of losing out in other offensive categories because I have a dominant lead in the other categories, except for avg.
Hey I'm sorry... I read your post and must have forgotten who you were talking about. Always getting those two confused because they're on the same team. That being said, I think JAY BRUCE is too much to give for Michael Bourne, yes! I would attempt to find another means to acquiring steals... I would stay away from dealing what is probably one of your best offensive producers. Sorry about the confusion.
Yeah Bruce is way too much if you ask me. Bruce is multi-dimensional with massive upside, hasn't peaked yet and will probably end up the season a top 15 fantasy player while bourn is what he is. No power, a lot of steals and an inconsistent average. Great option for steals but you don't know if he's going to keep hitting .290 or hit .250 like he has in the past. Great fantasy value but not nearly as much as Bruce.

I can't bring myself to start Pierre, who I drafted to be my steals man. I also need to improve my pitching, particularly in Ks. I really am dominating in runs, home runs and RBIs, so I can afford to give up some of those stats.

I like this idea, except that I need Kinsler's steals, which is the category I'm trying to improve in. I might be able to trade Carlos Pena for Ichiro, is that a good idea?

I'd do this all day, even with Pena's resurgence lately. Ichiro isn't a HUGE burner anymore but he's still far better than average and will bump your steals without losing Bruce.
