I'm in a 12 team mixed, h2h points league, no categories. We keep 7 players with a maximum 3 year contracts. My keepers are Carl Crawford, Ryan Zimm, Cliff Lee, Verlander, Carlos Santana, and Justin Upton with the option of having Eric Hosmer or Zach Greinke as my 7th. Zach Greinke is a Grandfather keeper. We started using draft tags last year, so there are a handful of grandfather keepers that do not cost a draft tag. Instead grandfather keepers cost you your last available pick in the draft. In Greinke's case, a 30th round tag. Hosmer on the other hand has 3 years remaining at a 28th round tag. Obviously long term Hosmer is the no brainer, but I only care about winning next year. So which player do you think has more value heading into next season, Greinke 30th round or Hosmer at 28th?
Greinke in the 30th round is obviously a steal, however, because of your other keepers (two stud starters already)...keep the bat in Hosmer, its only 2 rounds difference.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
I shouldn't of posted that I had Verlander and Lee already. I don't want to make a decision based on what players I already have rostered, I only am concerned with assembling the best set of keepers at the best value possible. I love Hosmer, but is he going to be a stud next year, or is he more likely a few years away from becoming one? I know what Greinke is, and I'm concerned I'll be passing on a potential ace for a Gaby Sanchez type season out of Hosmer next year.
