I know it's too early to get too excited, but who woulda thunk it. 2nd Place, 1.5 games out of 1st!! As a long-suffering fan, I still can't watch the highlights from the '92 NLCS. I also didn't think they'd be sub-.500 for the next 18 years. Anyhoo, I'm enjoying the ride while it lasts. And the league may as well hand over the Manager of the Year trophy to Hurdle right now.
I'm on, love when teams like them, the Royals, Rays, the Mets do well.
Who would've thought it would of been the pitching to get them here? Maybe they had the lineup, but alot of guys have dissapointed. It's been all about the pitching.
Being a native Pennsylvanian, having watched a few Pirates games on FSP (now Root) and having a few Pirates fans as personal friends I for one am happy to see them doing well. That city loves their teams and if they can get some of the same support the Steelers and Pens enjoy, it should make for a fun next couple months.
Hurdle has done an unbelievable job with what looks like a minor league lineup on a daily basis. I think Alvarez is the x-factor for the second half. If he can somehow break out of his funk and start to mash, it could be exciting.

Agreed, though the pitching should still be pretty scary. Morton has obviously been exposed, but how much longer can Karstens pitch like a top-end starter before he regresses to where (from what I've heard) the underlying numbers point?
P.S. Not trying to rain on the parade or anything, just wondering

Yeah, I'm not sure how much longer the pitching can perform at this level. They're bound to hit a rough stretch. Hopefully I didn't jinx them with this thread.
