Oswalt/Barney/Stubbs FOR Beckett/Freese/Pierre (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:01 am

I am in a deep 15 team keeper auction league, (Fantasy Points) I sit in 5th slot where the top 5 teams win "coin" and really its a dead heat for the top. Only 200FP behind the leader. My Offense is killing everyone else in my league but my pitching is least to be desired. Struggling arms like (Jimenez/Latos/Oswalt) is not helping me. Finding it hard to find trading partner, so I am pitching this offer out there. Your Thoughts? Starting Active Salary limit is $305. Beckett might not be the best target to fix my fizzling SP, but allot of the talent has already been traded for, so he really is the only talent available at the time being. Players have (3) year contracts in my league then become free agents. (#number#) in brackets is the contract year.

I GET BACK:
P - J.Beckett $37 (3) (free agent at seasons end)
3B - D.Freese $4 (2) (has one more year @ $4 keeper)
OF - J.Pierre $1 (3) (free agent at seasons end)

I TRADE AWAY:
P - R.Oswalt $15 (2) (has a keeper year left, but might be lost for the season)
2B/SS - D.Barney $4 (1) (has two more years left @ $4 keeper)
OF - D.Stubbs $2 (2) (has one year left @ $2 keeper)

MY CURRENT STARTING ROSTER:
C - V.Martinez $30 (3)
C - J.Lucroy $2 (1)
1B - A.Gonzalez $33 (2)
1B - E.Hosmer $8 (1)
2B - D.Barney $4 (1)
2B - O.Hudson $1 (1)
3B - J.Bautista $1 (2)
3B - S.Sizemore $1 (1)
SS - S.Castro $8 (2)
SS - A.Casilla $2 (1)
OF - A.McCutchen $20 (3)
OF - J.Bruce $33 (1)
OF - B.Boesch $3 (1)
OF - A.Gordon $1 (1)
OF - D.Stubbs $2 (2)
DH - B.Butler $14 (2)
P - Jimenez $41 (1)
P - Gallardo $39 (1)
P - M.Scherzer $27 (1)
P - Hudson $3 (3)
P - Latos $1 (2)
P - Luebke $1 (1)
P - Vogelsong $3 (1)
P - Hanrahan $1 (1)
TOTAL SALARY = $279

BENCH:
C - R.Hanigan $3 (1)
OF - A.Presley $3 (1)
OF - C.Heisey $1 (1)
P - B.Arroyo $3 (1)
P - D.Bard $1 (1)
P - J.Lannan $1 (1)
MINORS:
2B - B.Lawrie $1 (1) (waiting to slot him in my lineup)
C/OF - W.Myers $4 (1)
IR:
2B/3B/OF - M.Prado $3 (3) (dying to get him back)
3B - P.Alvarez $5 (3)
P - R.Oswalt $15 (2)

Oswalt I do not care about personally he and Beckett kinda wash out. Beckett is at least healthy and producing and wil for you down the stretch.

Pierre is old but still a solid productive R and SB threat.

The part of the side of your getting I like the most is David Freese and that is certainly an upgrade to Sizemore. In fact Freese might be the next great fantasy 3b and pairing him with Bautista is great for this season and next.

now the problem, dealing Stubbs away for that cheap a price and 1.5 seasons from him as well. However this your #5 OF and you need Pierre's speed.

Normally those wouldn't say to trade a good young player at a cheap price. However, I think you should pull the trigger on this deal. It gives you an upgrade at 3b (for this year and next) and the smallest of downgrades in the OF but sacrifice your OF-5 slot which can be picked up in next year's draft, through FA, or your prospect system. Plus you have OF - A.Presley $3 on your bench that you could plug into that slot after this year. Your team is solid enough especially with Lawrie added to the mix. I'd go for this deal b/c I think it will help you win this year and Freese will help you next year as well. This would all but shore up your entire starting lineup for this year and next.

Jimenez at 41 bucks is kinda hurting your overall but other than that. You need another closer and another arm. I'd look to packaging Jimenez for two young arms or one good young arm and a closer (maybe a Romero/Beachy/Norris and Kimbrel trade?)
Go for it.
