Seth Smith or Daniel Murphy? WHIR 100%

Who do you think will be a better fantasy performer going forward?

Seth Smith or Daniel Murphy

I could use Murphy's multiple position eligibility since Uggla is starting to regress again. But Smith seems like he is finally producing like everyone predicted he would do the last couple of years. Daniel Murphy's current hot streak could just be a fluke. What do you all think?

I like Murphy for a couple reasons.
1 - Murphy is a great mon/thurs fillin bc of his position flexibilty. and hes been on fire
2 - the Colorado OF is crowded and the only sure thing is that Cargo will play every day. Nobody else in the OF has guaranteed playing time, including Smith (even tho i feel like he should get everyday AB's)

I would go with Murphy mainly due to the fact that you have Uggla at 2nd. You must have had someone else there prior to Uggla's hot streak as he's been a downright bust up until about 2 weeks ago. Smith isn't so much a need for you at this point. Maybe you can try to trade Pena for a 2B instead. As much as Pena will hit 30HR's he'll do so with a .210 BA.

Yeah I had Darwin Barney, but he went on the DL and Uggla happened to start hitting again thank goodness. But he is starting to slow down again.

I honestly dont think anyone would trade for Pena in my league, I just picked him up off the FA b/c I think he will have a better season this year. Due mainly to the fact that it's his contract year and he is playing in Wrigley Field. And he wont hurt my AVG that bad b/c I will just play him when he is facing RHP.

Thanks for the help on mine. I will echo c3's thoughts here. Having Murphy as a MI is a big boost to his value... and you're correct in thinking he can help cushion the blow if Uggla can't get it fully going. Also Seth Smith is a member of a crowded Col OF. I like him a lot as a player, but PT is always a risk out there if your name isn't CarGo. Hope this helped.

I dont get where the playing time issue comes from with Seth Smith though, he has been playing every game and is even getting the start against lefties now. Is there sometime I am just missing with him?

In June Smith has started 21 of the 27 Rockies games.
so hes playing only about 2/3 of the time which leaves a lot of production on the table.
and the main point is that Jim Tracy doesnt have anyone locked into the OF other than Cargo. hes pretty unpredictable with his lineups, so
unless youre in a daily lineups league and monitor your team closely, i wouldnt count on him as an everyday player.

I'm just really worried that if I drop Seth Smith he is going to get his hot streak back and continue his break out season. A lot of analysts have predicted Seth Smith to break out the last two seasons and it seems like it is finally bound to happen.

Of course some have predicted the same for Daniel Murphy.
