I give: Youkilis, Romero, J. Zimmerman, Mike Adams I get: Longoria, Ian Kennedy
I know I'm giving up a lot but here's what I'm thinking.
Zimmerman has been nasty in June but he has an innings cap at around 150. He's going to be done by August so I want to trade him while the news hasn't hit.
Romero is downright filthy but my pitching is deep so I can afford to lose him. Besides Kennedy is no slouch. A solid back end of the rotation guy for me.
I just picked up Mike Adams. I already have three solid closers, I can always find a fourth closer in waiting on the free agent pool.
Longoria is heating up and I'm not always confident Youkilis can stay injury free. I know Youkilis hits in a loaded line up.
I see it as Longoria + Kennedy for Youkilis + Romero
I like it, especially with you recieving Longo...but I dont see this as getting as much as you can. Adams is nice to have, but in the end expendable. Zimmerman is going to help now, not at the end of the season so I like your reasoning there, but I think him and Youk are worth as much as Longo/Kennedy. Injury concerns are not reality, you cannot predict when/if a player will get hurt. Yes Youk has been hurt before, and hes spent some time on the DL, but your arguement makes it sound like he's Chipper Jones. Youkilis has recovered form every injury hes faced, and every new one is that, a NEW injury. If hes on my team, I fully expect for him to play the rest of the year, he doesnt have some sort of a chronic injury or anything, and his production is way higher than most at a thin position. I see no reason to give up Romero and Zimmerman, one of them should suffice and I would hold onto one to help you right now as opposed to planning for the end of the season. I also dont think your pitching is deep enough to afford a loss of Zimm and Romero, right now I would consider them 2 of your top 4 pitchers in reliability. Burnett is terrible, Humber is in the same boat as Zimm and Rome but not as good, Liriano is erratic and notoriously terrible in cold weather(end of the season) and Latos isnt as good as last yr. Another thing to think about, Adams might very well be the closer for SD in a few weeks. Dont you think if he gains that role he will be more valuable? I think you should renegotiate, only give up one of those pitchers, and the trade would be much more fair to you
