Dealing Pineda WHIR

Postby Guzman24 » Thu Jun 30, 2011 10:44 am

Would you deal away Pineda in a keeper if you could get a proven ace back for the stretch run?

Currently in 1st place in my money league and I'm beginning to think if I could obtain a guy like Cliff Lee, Hamels or CC Sabathia for Pineda and a 2nd round draft pick I should do it.

12 Teams H2H 5x5 (OBP instead of AVG and QS instead of W's) 8 Keepers

C Montero
1B Votto
2B Weekes
3B Young
SS Reyes
OF Kemp
OF Granderson
OF Swisher
UT Teix

SP Verlander
SP Price
SP Pineda
SP G.Gonzalez
SP Bumgarner
RP Cordero
RP Walden

DL J.Johnson

BN Capps, Norris, Abreu, Trout, Hardy

If you can get Hamels and a second round pick you do it!

Id be losing the pick. It equates to a player ranked around 120 as 96 players are kept

Sorry..... I guess it would make a difference if you were thinking about keeping Pineda. Pineda might be around at that pick that you are giving up, but I wouldn't see Hamels lasting that long.

You do this immediately. Even in keeper leagues, WIN NOW over later. There will always be breakout pitchers and offensive players, that is something you can take to the bank. What there isn't a lot of is proven professionals that you can get 200 innings a season out of, where Pineda might get there I doubt hes playing when youre in the playoffs this yr. Youre currently in 1st place, so how much further would the lead be if you had a better pitcher that would last longer into the season? A lineup featuring Verlander Price and Hamels is really unthinkable, especially if you dont have to give up any bats for this. I would be all over it.

Help on mine?

Jump all over getting Hamels for sure. That's a steal. Really.

I would do it. If you can win now who cares about next year?

^^^Completely agree. In keeper leagues you still always want to win now over later. There is no telling what's going to happen in the off season or next year. So if you have a chance at winning this season, if you can improve those chances by trading a keeper its usually a good idea.

Think about it this way too...If you can only have 8 keepers, who are you going to keep? Is Pineda on that list? Will this proven ace be on there? Right now, if there arent any restrictions, you're probably keeping:

Votto
Kemp
Reyes
Texiera
Verlander
Price
Johnson

If Pineda's on your team, I would keep Granderson. If Hamels/Lee/Sabathia is on there, I keep that pitcher instead. So it would work out long term for you as well.
