Mesa had over a 6 ERA last year with a WHIP around 1.8 (iirr). If he didn't lose his job through that, I don't know what would cause him to loose his job...
My guess is Acevedo was sent down so he could work regularly as a closer, and if Mesa falters Acevedo will get the call-up to take the job.
That said, if Mesa's on your roster (like he is on mine), try to trade him now! Then again, for the 2002 & 2001 seasons, he was pretty good with under a 3 ERA and >30 saves each year. Go figure.
A longshot might be Mark Corey. He has struck out a batter per inning over his career, but has been hittable at times, and struggled w/ control at others. Weirder things have happened! Rocky freaking Biddle!
Implode typically gives the sense of a player screwing up big time, while explode can be seen as a positive stretch of huge stats usually for a hitter.
Heh that was kind of stupid blurb, but I tried to answer a stupid question that was posted

Not a stupid blurb at all. That is exactly right, Mesa will most likely implode not explode.
I tend to agree with Brendo, WHEN not IF...
