Standard 5x5 Yahoo Keeper League (8 keepers). Standard positions plus CI/MI/OF.
I am trying to win this year and have already traded several draft picks for 2012. That said, I was just offered the following deal from a team looking to rebuild:
His Cliff Lee SP and C Granderson CF / A McCutchen CF for
My A Lind CI, P Alvarez 3B, Round 1, 5, and 6 picks in 2012
Only problem is that my OF is full: Crawford LF, BJ Upton CF, J Werth RF, A Jones OF, I Suzuki DH. This means I would have to bench one of those players and pick up a CI (my backup CI/MI is on the DL).
I think in terms of sheer value, I am gaining a lot here for draft picks. I will not have a CI, so I would be forced to trade an OF for a 1B/3B (which may be tough). But I gain Cliff Lee and Granderson / McCutchen, who I feel are on equal to near footing with Lind.
That said, I could always wait until the trade deadline to get a SP. I really don't need an upgrade for hitting. Just a SP for some draft picks. But I'm not sure what type of SP would be available (I think the closest to Lee would be Beckett, maybe J Weaver). I'm just wondering if I should pull the trigger on this one..
Overall I like it. You should consider counteroffering with one of your outfielders instead of one of your draft picks, but its worth the headache with the CI position regardless.
The value is much too great to turn this down. The boost you'll receive from Lee and either one of those huge OF upgrades will be much greater than the step backwards you'll take at CI. You'll have plenty of OF depth to trade for a suitable CI, and worst case you can't, CI is relatively deep and there will be plausible options available on waivers.
