Completed a minor deal. Comments? WHIR!!!

Postby SullivanNJD » Mon Jun 20, 2011 9:36 pm

I traded away Cuddyer and Mike Adams for Jose Tabata and John Axford

Here is my roster after the deal

C- Kurt Suzuki
1B- Justin Smoak
2B- Jemile Weeks
3B- Macier Izturis
SS- Jose Reyes
IF- Brett Wallace
IF- Starlin Castro
OF- Jose Tabata
OF- Hunter Pence
OF- Mike Stanton
OF- Ben Zobrist
OF- Cameron Maybin
UTIL- Carlos Beltran
UTIL- Dee Gordon
BN- Jason Bourgeois
BN- Charlie Blackmon
BN- Seth Smith
DL- Freddy Sanchez
DL- Jason Kubel

SP- Tim Lincecum
SP- Cole Hamels
SP- Felix Hernandez
SP- Ricky Romero
SP- Josh Tomlin
RP- Brian Wilson
RP- Jordan Walden
RP- John Axford
BN- Travis Wood
DL- Brad Lidge

The team I traded with really had interest in Cuddyer and he was not playing a huge role on my team so I decided to do this trade. Axford can get me some more saves and help with k/9 category as well. I am looking for comments on this deal. I will help with anything needed in return. Thanks!

I think I would have rather had Cuddyer with the way your league is set up with it's positions and his position eligibility.

At first glance I don't see this trade being in your favor.

Cuddyer is 2B eligible, and I see you are playing Weeks right now. the A's don't know if Weeks will continue to play once Mark Ellis comes back off the DL, so assuming he does not play, you are left with no one at second(Izturis can play 2nd, but then you have no one at 3rd.)

You got Tabata in the trade, but you have a few outfielders already. Blackmon has the tools to to closely mirror Tabata's numbers. Because of this I feel as though you got a semi-worthless player for your team. If you were short on outfielders sure, but you have a few capable players.

I guess you can say you picked up saves. i hate trading for saves though, you can always pick some up off the FA market down the road. Does your league count holds? if so then this trade was really bad for you, sorry to say.

PS - You have a lot of SS, should try to trade one of them for a 3B.

Good luck!

My league does not have a hold category. Adams was playing my 3rd RP position. I figured if I can get Axford who will get me saves and a better K/9 (Axford: 12.25, Adams 9.46) it will be beneficial to my team.

ALSO: I made a mistake on my roster post and forgot to add Jamey Carroll who has 2B, 3B, SS, OF eligibility.

Only placed it may sting is at 2B (Cuddyer) but overall I like your value. Small move and likely wont make seasons, but I see your reasoning.
