Mauer/Pedroia for MCab...WHIR

Postby High cheese » Sat Jun 18, 2011 11:02 pm

Sitting 2nd in an 8-team Yahoo Standard Roto League and feel my only weak spots are C and 2B so I was thinking of making this offer...

Give - MCab, C. Santana, Hill
Get - Mauer, Pedroia, Cain

Coming into the season I thought Santana could possibly be a top 3 or 4 catcher and Hill would have a year that was in between what he did 2 years ago and last. I've now soured on both ideas and feel I need to make this move. I tried offering Teixeira instead of MCab but owner rejected it pretty quickly. Other owner has Helton as his 1b (he's playing Lind at OF) and is falling behind in homers and rbi's. Should I make this offer with confidence that it will help me in the long run??? Any advice is appreciated...

No way. You're giving up far too much. Cain is a nice get and bounce-back guy for the second-half, but Pedroia has been hurting all year and could hit the shelf before long. Hill will improve (he has to), and I actually think Santana is the better bet over Mauer the rest of the way. You can't give up Miggy in this deal.

This is a hard decision..you are giving up a good hitter in MCab for 1 good hitter..and 1 that has been on the DL most of the season. This may hurt you in the long run...or Mauer could be the player he was last year and really help you out. It's a gamble either way in my opinion. With him declining the trade with Tex...he may decline this one too..I would have taken the Tex deal

I see you have Roberts on your DL..if you have room...I would drop him and pick up someone on the waiver wire..Roberts is not worth keeping..he is to injury prone.

Would really appreciate help with these two..thanks

I prefer McCab side. Not worse deal, but I think you shoudl tinker some on this.

No. I don't think it's worth it. I like Cain, but Mauer is a risk. You don't need to be taking on risks, you're in 2nd place. You're better off keeping Miggy and if Hill doesn't produce, replace him with someone else. Santana will come around.

This. I like the MCAB side by a pretty good margin. Not an awful deal, but the MCab side wins IMO.

Catcher for everyone in fantasy is a headache. If you want to upgrade your 2B you won't have to give up Cabrera to do it. I don't like this trade for you at all. I would just concentrate on upgrading at 2B and not give up Cabrera. I don't really see that deal helping you in the long run. Mauer wasn't that spectacular last year when he was healthy enough to play over 130 games, so I wouldn't look for anything more.

I think that's a close deal in value if everyone is at the top of their game. But Mauer for me right now is a big question mark. If I were doing that deal, I'd want to know I'm getting a healthy Mauer who is hitting like we all know. He's missed just too much time and hasn't been back long enough for me to deal away Miggy.
