In our 12 team, 5 keeper, 5X5 roto league, we have to keep at least 1 pitcher.
I currently have Chacin and Hellickson (as well as Kennedy) on my roster. I can keep one of them, or trade for Pineda. His owner already said he'd trade him as he has Felix to keep. It seemed obvious to trade for Pineda, but then I looked at Chacin a little closer. His numbers are actually very similar to Pineda and he's slightly younger. To be honest, I don't watch nearly enough baseball and haven't seen either of them pitch. I did see Hellickson pitch and though he was good, I didn't think he looked amazing or anything, but I really don't know. So do I keep Hellickson and Chacin and keep one of them? Or do I trade for Pineda? I would probably have to give up Chacin and a little more to get Pineda, but my team is pretty much toast and I just want the best keeper pitcher I can get.
If you are 100% folding, I would go for Pineda. The edge over Chacin or even Hellickson is slight, but what the heck, it's not gonna help the other owner beat you next season and you don't care about this season, so go for the best player. Give him whatever he wants.....
This is all assuming you REALLY want Pineda. For a Chacin/Hellickson type of deal you could go after Halladay or Verlander. Just a thought....thanks for looking at mine sir.
Verlander is not available. Halladay probably isn't either, though I did make an offer for him at one point. The thing is, other than Holliday, my other keepers will all be very young, so I figured to go that way with my pitcher as well.
Unless he is top-3, I wouldn't keep an SP over a strong bat.
However if you are look for a pitcher to keep, I agree with Hootie and RJ that Pineda has a slight edge over Chacin, if in trade value if nothing else. It is laughable how underrated Chacin is.
We HAVE to keep a pitcher, otherwise I certainly wouldn't if I could help it. I agree that Chacin is underrated, that's why I had to ask the question. I imagine it would be an easy choice for most.
